No one wants to take me up on my bet?
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 02:50 AM by WilliamPitt
I told a story in another thread about a conversation I had with the doorman at my bar, who is a Bush guy.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=5705768&mesg_id=5705768

Some seem to think the story is fiction.

I stated in another thread that I would wager ten thousand dollars ($10,000) on the matter.

Come to Boston, come to my bar, and meet Ty. Get the story straight from him.

Right now, he is reading Bamford's 'Body of Secrets' (because I gatev it to him), so he may not love you too much.

Is it fiction?

Find me, and find out.

Ten grand says it is gospel truth.

Try me. I'd enjoy the money.

On edit: Come on, Freeper fuckers. I'd love to deprive you of the next seven payments for your double-wide. Cowards.

1. Will, it's a testament to your writing powers.
I thought it was a very well explained tale of real events. I think that the well written piece did have a feel of "fiction" to it, but after re-reading the post I realized that it was your captivating style that made me feel that way. No, I believe the story to be quite true and I thank you for sharing. I think that you should take these scoffs for what they really are, an acknowledgment of your ability to share a true and powerful story in a beautiful way.

16. Of course I do. Only the confident (and rightly so) would joke this way
I can't actually pimp out my boyfriend anyway, at least not without his permission and yes, he is very cute. However, I don't want to get Will's thread locked. ;)

3. What would the doubting thomas have made of your NoLA tale?
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 02:58 AM by Tigress DEM
About the guy who went looking for his fiance and found her, and a whole lot of other things as well.

I loved how you used his time there to wind through many things going on to give a real vivid view of how crazy it was and how love and sheer determination drove him on. What was his name again?

Just cause it's the truth doesn't have to mean it's boring.

Just because you can tell the story well doesn't mean I don't think it happened. Hell, I still remember the cheg-boy-ardee story and I'm quite sure that one happened too.

15. Impossible to believe that a lukewarm Bush supporter...
...after being informed and made to think and investigate, might not be so hot for Bush? No, not at all. I've seen it happen several times. Pfft.

17. I found the story
both believable and encouraging. Sometimes, we just have to take their hands, and encourage them to take baby steps at first, then let them walk away from Bush on their own. Who is doubting you, Will?

20. It is the type of thing they do all the time, just not as well written.
And because they do it all the time they expect that you are doing it as well. They have no concept of integrity or honesty, they only know cutthroat brutality as a means to their ends.

21. I'm not getting why so many are questioning this?
While you tell the whole story in a way that seems almost lyrical, and thus fascinating to read, it all makes perfect sense to me. I'd imagine we could find many an independent or libertarian Bush* supporter who would react (perhaps already IS reacting) similarly with the knowledge of these wiretaps. That sick 30 percent or so of supporters who are REBPUG above all else, to hell the consequences.... well, I don't know what will wake them up. In the end, perhaps it doesn't matter.

At any rate, I sincerely hope there are similar epiphanies going on throughout the country as we "speak."

If s/he said the sun rose in the east, I'd get another source. Everytime s/he's replied to me, the post usually contained something like three lines, five factual errors, two logical fallacies and at least fourteen lies.

30. I believe you. I'd be tempted to go to Boston myself and report back
to the trolls and unbelievers. I can fly for free (airline employee) and could get there very easily. In fact, if I didn't believe you I'd have been on a plane already -- I need the money. But your report rings true for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that an awful lot of people get the creepy-crawlies when they believe their privacy is, our could be, invaded. You have done a far better job describing your conversation than most of us could have done, but I've been hearing some similar comments from people, too. This is the way we win -- one convert at a time. Good job. Maybe the doubters have become so cynical they can't imagine the possibility of conversion. But you can, and I can, and I hope most of the rest of us can. Because that's how we get our country back.

bravo.
