The 29-year-old Las Vegas man who died after Las Vegas police shocked him with a Taser on Saturday was threatening to commit suicide and "talking to himself and dead people," when his mother called 911, authorities said.
The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the man as Vardan Kasilyan on Monday.
Kasilyan's mother called police to the Chapel Hill condominiums at 9620 West Russell Road about 9 p.m. Saturday.
"The mother of the victim told Metro dispatch that her son had schizophrenia and was not taking his medication," Lt. Lew Roberts, head of the Metropolitan Police Department's homicide unit, said in a press release. "The mother also went on to tell dispatch that she thought her son had a screwdriver and that there were knives in the kitchen."...
He is the fifth person to die in police custody after being shocked with a Taser by Las Vegas police. Las Vegas police began using the weapon, labeled as an alternative to lethal force, more than two years ago.
