They're bringing out the big guns, folks: "Did Democrats Page Mark Foley?
Scandal: Right after Mark Foley was revealed to have had inappropriate e-mail conversations with a 16-year-old page, he resigned and checked into rehab. Now, what did Democrats know, and when did they know it?

Yes, you read that right: the Democrats. It's of course clear that Foley, a Republican representative from Florida, resigned for good cause. We don't defend him or his inexcusable behavior -- good riddance.

But it didn't take long at all after Foley's resignation for the Democrats to call for an investigation of the entire Republican leadership in the House, charging that GOP stalwarts knew early on that Foley, as they like to say in the rehab business, had a "problem."

Democrats have begun losing their once-significant lead in the polls, and a mere five weeks remain until the midterm elections. Is this scandal the Democrats' own "October Surprise," meant to throw the GOP into a tailspin shortly before the vote?

Recent polls show Democrats aren't doing very well on several key issues. What better way than a good, old-fashioned sex scandal to get people's minds off such things as the importance of winning the war in Iraq, our ongoing vulnerability to terrorist attack and the necessity of keeping the Bush economic boom going?

1. How is this the "big guns"?
This is just some hit piece written by a Yahoo member. A badly-written hit piece at that.

3. Who the fuck is lbd? That does NOT look like a normal editorial or
commentary--no NAME, or affiliation, at all. Usually they get their shit from another outlet, this looks like it was somehow just "inserted" into YAHOO.

6. Wow that is exactly what Rush said
See according to his thinking the fact that they didn't publish this WAS because they say (his reading) that they didn't have concrete sources (they couldn't read the IMs?) but Brian Ross did report shows that ABC is liberal and that the whole thing will come out months after the election when we find out what Democratic war room leaked this to Ross. It is Ross's fault. Oh Rush told me that Ross had this information but was busy reporting on the first anniversary of Katrina and the 5th anniversary of 9/11 to report on it, Ross endanger these children by holding onto this information (from several years ago) and not reporting on it. Rush told me.

"That said, if this scandal is the Democrats' answer to their problems at the polls, it's pretty pathetic. It shows a base contempt for the voters."

It reminded me of beaconess's http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2861393">great post this morning:

The next time someone complains that the Foley coverup is being used against the GOP for political purposes, remind them that just last month, Tom "Promise Not to Do It Again, Give Us $100,000 and We'll Leave You Alone" Reynolds proudly crowed that the Republicans were going to get personal and dig up dirt on their opponents:

In a Pivotal Year, GOP Plans to Get Personal;
Millions to Go to Digging Up Dirt on Democrats

Washington Post, September 10, 2006

Republicans are planning to spend the vast majority of their sizable financial war chest over the final 60 days of the campaign attacking Democratic House and Senate candidates over personal issues and local controversies, GOP officials said. The National Republican Congressional Committee, which this year dispatched a half-dozen operatives to comb through tax, court and other records looking for damaging information on Democratic candidates, plans to spend more than 90 percent of its $50 million-plus advertising budget on what officials described as negative ads.

The hope is that a vigorous effort to "define" opponents, in the parlance of GOP operatives, can help Republicans shift the midterm debate away from Iraq and limit losses this fall. The first round of attacks includes an ad that labeled a Democratic candidate in Wisconsin "Dr. Millionaire" and noted that he has sued 80 patients.

"Opposition research is power," said Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds (N.Y.), the NRCC chairman. "Opposition research is the key to defining untested opponents."

Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 03:32 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
I've been told that's why they all drive HUGE trucks, they're compensating for their wee little pea shooters. :D

In 1983 I was 14 years old I could care less what scandal was taking place on the Hill back then.

Barney Frank fixed some tickets for his lover in 1989. OMG! Say it isn't so!!!

Oh, then we have the mighty Clenis...An adult having oral sex with another consenting adult. *yawn*

You know I really was worried that they were going to drag up something to try and distract from all this poop they're sinking in, but if this is any indication of what they have we are home free! :toast:

Thanks for posting this, I feel so much better!! :D

33. It's today's GOP talking point
Krazy Katie Harris said it earlier - wonkette has the video. And a Repuke stragegist told ABC, this is their offense.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/story?id=156238

ABC News' Mark Halperin reports a senior Republican House aide familiar with Boehner's thinking when asked if Boehner was throwing the Speaker under the bus said, "No. He is doing his best to relay the facts as to what he knew and when. The truth contained within those facts is our best defense."

Halperin also reports one Republican strategist tells The Note, "I think reporters are beginning to look at who had these IMs and why didn't they come forward with them. Its offense from here on out from us. Making the case that we never knew about the IMs and are outraged by them and want a full investigation. I can't help but wonder if some Ds had this info and only used it politically."
