Poll question: Will Democrats pick up enough seats in Congress to override a veto?
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 05:42 PM by MrCoffee
You can only override a Presidential veto with a 2/3 vote in both the House and Senate. That means we need 67 seats in the Senate and 290 in the House.

Given the implosion over Foley, Woodward's book, the NIE, the war, Iran...at this point in the election calendar, do you think the Democrats can pick up enough seats in both the House and the Senate to override a veto?

Full disclosure: I've read the "hold your nose and vote D" arguments re: the MCA, and I still don't think that's enough to change the law. I'm positive that we will pick up seats, and probably have a majority, but I don't think we'll have enough to override.

1. There aren't enough Senate seats up this year.
It isn't possible. Also, 90 seats in the House ain't happening.

2. No, Sir, We Will Not
It will be a good year, but not that good.

This thing is, for better or worse, in place until the Supreme Court judges it un-Constitutional, as it probably will, or we have a Democrat as President.

7. I believe Zynx was right...it's not possible for us to override in the Sen
not enough seats up...by my count, we can pick up a maximum of 18, which only brings us to 62.
That's not enough to override.

9. Do you really want impeachment proceedings?
In my gut, absolutely. These war criminals should be dragged around the Washington Mall in chains. But, there are certain realities to impeachment proceedings that have to be addressed. Like, who first, Cheney or Bush?

10. Nope
not enough senate seats up.
And I think in the House we would have to win so many seats. I don't see it happening.

I am not too worried about veto override.

I would take winning one or both houses for now.
