If he wins and his vote is the deciding factor it will be nothing but blackmail from him "if you don't give me what I want I may take a walk." He'll also use his power to stop any investigations of Bush's Iraqi policy.

The only way around it (other than Lamont still winning) is a wave election where Dems gain 7 or 8 Senate Seats. Our best bets:
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Ohio
Montana
Missouri
Tennessee
Virginia

If we could add Arizona or even Nevada to that then we could all collectively tell Joe to go fuck himself.

p.s.
we also need to make sure that Menendez, our most endangered Senate Democrat, gets over the finish line.

1. I'm always a little amazed when Nevada is cited as a possible pickup...
Ensign has been leading the entire time, almost always by double digits, and often by 20 points or more.

Kyl has enjoyed only a slightly less substantial lead over Pederson.

I agree Penn, R.I., Ohio, and Montana are all very likely, with Missouri and Tennessee as possibilities. Virginia is a longshot, growing longer every day as the macaca story and its ramifications fall down the memory hole. I think Webb really should have played up the angle more -- when Allen was revealed for the racist bastard he is, Webb should have run commercials hammering the point home. He hasn't done so, or at least, he hasn't done as much as he could have.

In the end, we'll likely pick up four to six seats, with five being the most likely, IMHO.

But in any case, I dn't see Lieberman as an issue. If he intends to run for re-election in 2012 (and I think it's pretty likely he will) then he has to caucus with Dems. This idea that he'll go GOP just doesn't hold water.

4. There was a Rasmussen poll which had Carter only seven points
down in Nevada, but that was a while back. Also in Arizona, the Cook Political Report is saying it's tightening and "anything can happen in a wave."

2. Read somewhere that Menendez is gaining ground.
Here in OH we are focusing on Brown and Strickland (for governor). We figure if Strickland wins by 18% (quite possible) he will carry the rest of the ticket.
