Phil Angelides kicked Arnold's butt tonight!
WOW, that was even better than I thought it would be, and I had high expectations for Phil.

Phil was articulate and well informed, fast on his feet, good sense of humor, and didn't miss a beat. He clobbered Ahhhnuld repeatedly on taxes, education, health care, the Bush Agenda...he was all OVER him.

SWEET! The next 29 days are going to be a BALL!

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the next Governor of California...Phil Angelides!

16. Some quotes
No transcript yet, but some of the comments (better in context of course, but you can get a flavor for it)

"You tried to privatize the pensions of police officers who risk their lives on the street for us." — Angelides, to Schwarzenegger.

"It goes to who you can trust and whose bidding you're doing." — Angelides, accusing Schwarzenegger of serving the demands of corporate backers.

"Gov. Schwarzenegger went on right-wing talk radio and praised the Minutemen." — Angelides.

"You stood with President Bush and helped him get re-elected. And we didn't get a T-shirt." — Angelides.

"Every day is just a hoot." — Angelides, responding to a question from Schwarzenegger about the funniest moment in his campaign.

Phil, saying he would "close tax loopholes big enough for you to drive your Hummer through"

5. The Freeps Thought Phil Was "Mean"
So, I figured he won....I WISH EVERYBODY IN CA WOULD SEE THE MOVIE, THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM about Arnies meetings with Enron and the scheming before the recall. As a born & raised Angelino I am absolutely appalled at the fact that Arnie is ahead now after all his misdeeds.

15. Samples:
*Stupid debate format. Stupid moderator. Stupid undecided focus group. Stuck on stupid. 'Scuse me while I go take some Excedrin.

*He reminds me of a certain left wing actor on L&O.

*Hey, Norm! We got Arnold or Angelides. That's it. Hold your nose and vote for Arnold. Yer bellyachin' is gettin' old, son. Vote for McClintock for Lt. Gov. and Anti-Moonbeam for AG and look at how far we've come. This IS California after all.

*Angelides wants to tax the oil companies.

*Go back to the horse and buggy days -- Angelides almost says.

*PHilth is Casey at the bat. This guy is whiffing..

*Westly was the one I thought would have made this a closer contest. Oh well..

*2010 will be real interesting.. we'll be deep in debt, running massive deficits.. should be fun..

I READ ALL THAT AND WENT, YAY PHIL WON!

7. I watched most of it, and I thought Phil did a much better job too.
Unfortunately, I don't live in Ca.

Arnold was just playing his movierole of Governor.

I'm afraida lot of people in Cajust might fall for the movie personality than the strong real person.

Everyone forgets his awful (and defeated) "initiatives" because he puts on his Dem Costume when the elections come up? Gimme a break....it's embarassing to me as a Californian that this ape is actually winning in the polls.

I am furious with all the Democrats who are not supporting him as they should. I know Dean was there, and Kerry, and others I hope. But a lot of the Dem's major donors are going with Arnie.

10. It was hilarious!
At the end, each got to ask the other any question they wanted. First, Arnold asked Angelides the most humorous part of campaigning. Angelides then asked Arnold why he cut pensions and benefits for policeman, firemen, etc.

The whole thing, from start to finish, was very funny. The moderator was frustrated because they didn't follow his rules. I laughed throughout most of it. Angelides once told Arnold that he went to Ohio(?) with Bush to help him get reelected, but CA residents didn't even get a t-shirt!

Angelides was on his toes and won hands down!

I also watched the Ford, Jr and Corker debate. I felt that Ford, Jr won - Corker came off as a pompous smart-alec while Jr discussed the issues much more professionally and with much more knowledge and foresight, imo.

11. I saw most of it and found Phil to be assertive and quick.....
and Arnold to be slow and repetitive.

Also, Arnold looked "squat" in his chair.....while Phil sat up straight and made the best of the fact that Arnold's been taking steroids for years.

All in all, Phil won it.....just don't know if he won enough converts! I certainly hope so!

18. This is WHY we chose Phil to run for us!
He is a BRAWLER, smarter and faster than Ahhnuld and his goons put together. I know everyone has been frustrated by what seemed like a lackluster response to all the attack ads. The fact is that Ahnuld has spent $40 million dollars trying to slime Phil, and STILL hasn't been able to get over 45% in the polls. 45%, my friends, is a loser in the end.

Phil has replenished his war chest, and now the big guns come out the last 4 weeks of election - TV & direct mail blitz...of course in addition to the ground troops.

Gawd, it's starting to feel really good being a CALIFORNIA DEMOCRAT again!

20. The whores at Channel 9 local news in LA
played it up as a win for the Gropernator. The only segment they played was Arnold ragging on Angelides as the guy who wants to raise people's taxes. If you missed the debate and only saw this particular "news"cast, you'd get a very biased account. The whores love Arnold.

but you're right, Arnold needs to go. Only reason he's doing well is because he's worked overtime to burnish his "moderate" credentials. This is a VERY Democratic state.

It drives me crazy, too, when people go on about our "Liberal" media like the SF Chronicle- the paper that railroaded Kevin Shelley out of his job... and positively gushes over Ahh-nold.

Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 12:28 AM by keepCAblue
when Arnold was answering a question, there was this quick jump in the tape--an obvious editing splice. If you blinked you'd have missed it but both I and my partner said "WTF?" when it happened. I'm seriously thinking Fox may have done some fast and sleazy editing to help make Ahnold look better.

I'm very impressed. I hope that we see a lot more of him on the airwaves, or Arnold is going to run away.

In my biased judgment, Angelides clobbered Arnold, but I was judging on substance, which could be the critical flaw of my judgment.
