Is the economy good in the south?
I always hear that the economy is good by bush and they want him to get his message out, but I have seen on news reports people standing in line for food at churches etc... I always hear these talking heads say it is only bad in Michigan and Ohio. I have also seen where nursing homes and others are dropping off people on skid row. So where is the good economy is it only in southern states?

1. the economy is good if
you are moving with some equity in your home from up north into a comparable job down south. The people who REALLY make a killing are the people from high-tax high cost of living states in the northeast to places like Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas.

They sell their overpriced home for $400,000, buy a larger home for $200,000 or $250,000 in cash and get rid of their mortgage.

Anyone's standard of living immproves when they get rid of a $1500+ a month mortgage payment.

5. People are Willing to Pay a Lot More to Live in Blue States
It isn't that housing in the Northeast (and the West Coast) is overpriced,
it's simply that more people want to live in progressive, blue states.

Young people move out of Jesusland at the first opportunity.
They have been doing so for years.

2. South Louisiana and South Mississippi
are bad barometers. Post Hurricane construction is driving the economy with FEMA and insurance and government monies. If one were a dishonest member of a dishonest administration one might point to the gulf coast as a true barometer of the economy but they would by lying. Theres lots of poor folks around here and there always has been.

3. Things seem to be okay here
as far as I can tell. I saw an article about the housing bubble and it said there were four states where the prices weren't dropping and TN was one of those. One good thing for Nashville in particular is that the economy is pretty diversified and no one industry employees the majority of people. Healthcare, insurance and education are biggies and tourism is 4th or 5th, I think. I would like to hear how other parts of the country are doing.

6. I'll agree with that,
I don't see the building industry cooking along either, except for the million dollar condos that afford waterfront views. I notice the St. Pete times is down to 3 pages of help wanted ads. Most are low pay clerical and health care related positions.

7. you still get a good deal
you could have a 9% state income tax like California. People will always find things to complain about.
