Troops with PTSD being sent back into combat. This is Bad

Troops with Stress Disorders Fit For Duty?

Army Staff Sgt. Bryce Syverson spent 15 months in Iraq before he was diagnosed by military doctors with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sent to psychiatric unit at Walter Reed Medical Center, CBS News correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi reports.

"It ended up they took his weapon away from him and said he was non-deployable and couldn't have a weapon," says his Father ,Larry Syverson. "He was on suicide watch in lock down."

That was last August. This August, he was deployed to Ramadi, in the heart of the Sunni triangle- and he had a weapon.

These Kids should not be back in combat at all piss off vet. What the F are they doing.

14. in bushco* eyes they are damaged goods anyway
along with depleted uraninum and no telling what else they'll not live long anyway and will have a lot of medical issues so they think that it would be best to send them back to the front rather than a soldier who hasn't been there yet. I swear that is what the cabal thinks.

them back to Iraq "to face their fears!"

We have become an internationally disgraceful nation under this NON-president!

13. I wouldn't worry about that too much
My guess is that the ones that are really bad off psychologically will be given assignments with a very high rate of death attached because this government doesn't want to be spending money on them when they get back.

18. They're too busy defending Bush to go to Iraq in this soldier's place.
I'm just crushed reading about this young man. And they put him right in the heart of combat.

12. You think that they wouldn't do that?
For enough persuasion, whether it is money, early discharge, or any number of reasons, you can find a Doctor to do or say anything.
It is a respectable profession, however, not everyone in it is respectable.

9. Wanna know what we did with PTSD cases in Vietnam?
Well, actually, PTSD hadn't been invented yet back then. We called them Combat Reaction cases.
We evaced them back to the Division medical unit, where we shot them full of Thorazine IM, which knocked them out for about 24 hours. When they woke up, we told them they were OK now & sent them back to the field. Turnaround time less than 48 hours.

15. This is how you end up with soldiers who rape a 14 year old
and kill her family. Stress them to the point of snapping, then send them back out on patrol. Good plan :eyes:

When you think it can't get any deeper or more criminal, more depraved, more imprisoning, betraying and immoral---- it does.

23. Every time I read a story like this...
My faith in a nonviolent solution gets shaken a little. It's a very uncomfortable sensation.

You cannot do this to your troops! Even if you strip away the moral repugnance of it, you have men and women who's conditions require treatment and make them less than effective at combat, or even service in general. You cannot stack illness upon illness and expect it to just fucking "go away!"

Perhaps I'm self-centered, worrying over my belief in a nonviolent solution. Rather, I should worry about what may happen when the troops have finally had enough.
