If Lou Dobbs would quit worrying about the nasty Brown Skinned people
and worry about what's really wrong with this country, he might be of value to this country.

He's got a guest on spreading fear via the mushroom cloud scenario again... This time from Mexico...

We need someone to be afraid of, the Terrorist thing has stopped working so now it's the Latino's turn in the barrel.

Sorry, guys.

there are too many other issues that could really use his attention.

5. I cannot understand why he is so fired up about this. Who does he
think (probably) cleans the cnn offices after he goes home at night? Where do his nice fruit and vegetables come from at dinner? Unless he's growin his own, he is funding illegal immigrants. How much more money would he be willing to pay for all the many services illegal immigrants do? This is how America has always worked. New immigrants work the jobs "native borns' won't do.

18. The INS seems to disagree.
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 08:37 PM by TahitiNut
is the largest source country for unauthorized immigration to the United States. The estimated unauthorized resident population from Mexico increased from about 2.0 million in 1990 to 4.8 million in January 2000. Mexico’s share of the total unauthorized resident population increased from 58 percent in 1990 to 69 percent in 2000. In addition to Mexico, six countries had more than 100,000 unauthorized residents in the United States in January 2000 --El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Honduras, China, and Ecuador.

http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/shared/aboutus/statistics/Ill_Report_1211.pdf

Apparently, the proportional increase between 1990 and 2000 has continued, if not accelerated.

I've observed that the vast majority of "discussions" on this topic are laden with gross distortions and a plethora of fallacies. While the stances seem to be firm, they don't seem to have been adopted on the basis of objective information.

They don't seem to be able to back their figures.
Let's face it, when there is an INS roundup, they go after the hispanics. Working in the restaurant business in various capacities during my lifetime in Southern California, I witnessed a few. The illegal Europeans were ignored as the INS went after the Hispanics. So this is where they get their figures. It's whom they caught and whom they wanted to catch, not whom was here.

I think if the INS decides to be honest, they will release figures that will show the number of illegal Europeans who married American citizens, whom they had to legalize because of marriage, children, etc. Those are the figures I want to see that don't seem to be so available.

26. So, the 'facts' are whatever anyone wants them to be?
You asserted a fact. I went to what would generally be regarded as the most authoritative source and found otherwise. The Bureau of the Census figures seem to agree with the INS figures. It's IMPOSSIBLE to have a sane and reasonable discussion when freed of any respect whatsoever for 'official' figures and reputable estimates.

This becomes a FAITH-BASED topic under that condition. The rhetoric has no validity when based on mere assertions and zealously held beliefs that will not admit to any change whatsoever, even in the face of objective data.

28. Try the Pew Hispanic Center.
They try to gather together the best statistics they can, but even they admit it's really hard to document a demography that doesn't fall into the usual accountable niches.

32. Even their figures agree with the INS figures.
10.3 Million Unauthorized in March 2004
Mexico -- 57% (5.9 million)
Other Latin America -- 24% (2.5 million)
Asia -- 9% (1.0 million)
Europe & Canada -- 6% (0.6 million)
Africa & Other -- 4% (0.4 million)

http://pewhispanic.org/files/reports/46.pdf

Now, I don't personally know what anyone really means by "brown person" (I let people describe themselves) but it seems that 81% might qualify in 2004, based on national origin. On the same basis, 'whites' seem to be less than 1/10th of that ... 6%.

I'm not personally inclined to think the US "needs" any more "white" people. I have an aesthetic preference for variety. At the same time, I also have a strong preference for LEGAL migration and a workforce that's enfranchised to VOTE. Thus, I vehemently oppose "guest worker" programs as well as illegal migration.

But at least I try diligently to distinguish between my preferences and the objective data.

35. Because that's the only figures they can get.
Yet, they admit that these are not the best. Trust me they aren't accurate. I live in an area that is 54% hispanic here in California. Most are actually legal, like second generation farm workers but they get lumped in with the illegals because of the way the stats are done.

19. 60-70 percent of the illegal immigrants come from Mexico alone
and they come via the Mexican border. There are approximately 12 million illegal Mexican immigrants in this country. There are NOT 12 million white, English speaking illegals in this country. There are NOT 12 million white, English speaking LEGAL immigrants in this country.

20. Yes, and everybody is so countable.
Exactly where do they get these statistics and exactly how do they separate a group that blends in with the white population nicely against the group that doesn't?

Let's face it, you can't count people who are not in the system with any accuracy. I also knew so many of those other white illegal immigrants.

Frack! I worked in a so-called Irish Pub as a bartender. I think I was the only legal worker there. All the bartenders and waitresses were illegal (europeans) as were the kitchen staff (latin americans). And the Europeans outnumbered the latino kitchen staff.

You have already discounted facts from the INS and Census Bureau. You discounted an article from Thom Hartmann a few months ago. It makes no difference. You have convinced yourself that an open southern border is just peachy, and that we should just let anyone and everyone come to the good ole' USA with no strings attached.

31. Oh, but I didn't say anything about an open border.
My opinion is if those who want to come here can come here legally, then they are protected by our laws as are our citizens. Those who can't find jobs will go home. No one seems to want to exploit this option, yet white people seem to be able to cross the Canadian border at will. It doesn't work in the opposite direction. The Canadians really work hard at keeping us out. I am of course against allowing criminals and drug dealers into our country, but right now they seem to have carte blanche. Money talks. No?

They weren't specific as to the service. They just called it military and had a very stereotypical, gangbanger looking type of teenager talking to his father about joining.
