I am both retired and handicapped at 53...
I have at my desk a notice that this year I will receive $1,134 from SS....and luckily I can live on this....monthly bills look like $750 fixed mortgage and utilities and food ain't that bad...But I was crippled on a job that paid 45K....things being as they are, I can expect to live another 30 years and never have an extra $100 in my pocket....last night I posted that I own a corporation (and an LLC),this will hopefully allow me to "earn" just less than the $700 a month allowed by SS to keep my benefits....and to earn an equity position to cash out of when I cannot function at all....In short it both sucks and is a blessing...If everything folded tomorrow I could afford a roof over my head AND tuna fish sandwiches on day old bread....if things go well there's no telling how well I will enjoy a house in Key West....

1. Way to stay on top of it.
I'm glad there's still Social Security for you to get.
