KRUGMAN SHOWS BUSH NO MERCY: "He's An Insecure Bully"
November 6, 2006
Op-Ed Columnist
Limiting the Damage
By PAUL KRUGMAN

President Bush isn’t on the ballot tomorrow. But this election is, nonetheless, all about him. The question is whether voters will pry his fingers loose from at least some of the levers of power, thereby limiting the damage he can inflict in his two remaining years in office.

..............

At this point, nobody should have any illusions about Mr. Bush’s character. To put it bluntly, he’s an insecure bully who believes that owning up to a mistake, any mistake, would undermine his manhood — and who therefore lives in a dream world in which all of his policies are succeeding and all his officials are doing a heckuva job. Just last week he declared himself “pleased with the progress we’re making” in Iraq.

In other words, he’s the sort of man who should never have been put in a position of authority, let alone been given the kind of unquestioned power, free from normal checks and balances, that he was granted after 9/11. But he was, alas, given that power, as well as a prolonged free ride from much of the news media.

............

But here’s the thing: no matter how hard the Bush administration may try to ignore the constitutional division of power, Mr. Bush’s ability to make deadly mistakes has rested in part on G.O.P. control of Congress. That’s why many Americans, myself included, will breathe a lot easier if one-party rule ends tomorrow.

and the swearing in in January............

He will have nearly ten weeks to monkeywrench, and trust me, that IS what he will do.

when the Dems win. His style would be to inflict
as much damage as possible in retaliation.

if Dems win both houses, and maybe if they win only one, two things happen that will work against that attempt. First, he knows they can and will right his wrongs AND exact a price come January. And, he will know that the voters are on to his BS. He has been given a free pass for 6 years because they refused to hold him accountable, so he did whatever the Rethug machine wanted. If voters send the clear signal Tuesday, enough Republicans will get it, even if he doesn't, that they are putting themselves in the position of being out of power for a very long time if they don't change their ways.

50. You are assuming a rational response.
Bush has never been held accountable for anything in his life.
And he is mentally ill and intoxicated most of the time.
His response most likely will be pathological.

65. that's what Louis Dubose suggested back in 2000
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 10:11 PM by Lisa
He warned that things could get pretty nasty "when George W. Bush comes home a loser". At the time, he thought that Bush wouldn't win (and, well, we know he actually didn't!). Dubose was just a bit ahead of the calendar, because his prediction that Bush would be seen as a "loser" will come true, in the historical sense!

"They're keeping lists. Of every insult, no matter how small. Of every criticism, no matter how fair. Of every news clip. Of every joke, no matter how innocent."

Didn't bush make sure New Orleans was cleaned up? Has bush's prayers gone unanswered and we are still being threatened by Thousand and Thousands of terrorist?

Let's hope those brain dead get sick to their stomaches and stay home. Just thinking how dreadful things have turned for them, they can't depend on the likes of Haggard or their Great Leader. With faith like theirs they will stumble to the polls and do their bidding of their leader, hell, we all have sinned and come short, But, god will forgive. But then, it was pretty obvious that it was an orchestrated lie machine.

>>>The feeding frenzy over John Kerry’s botched joke showed that many people in the news media are still willing to be played like a fiddle. And if you think the timing of the Saddam verdict was coincidental, I’ve got a terrorist plot against the Brooklyn Bridge to sell you.

Moreover, the potential for vote suppression and/or outright electoral fraud remains substantial.

62. I am one who believes that Iraq is going to plan.
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 10:00 PM by bloom
it's a totally fucked up "plan" - but I think it's mostly intentional, nonetheless.

(IOW it's not as Krugman says, "owning up to a mistake" - it's not a "mistake" when it's intentional - when it's exactly what he wants. And another thing - I think is makes him worse than an "insecure bully" - and more along the lines of a psychopath/serial killer).

When Bush says he is “pleased with the progress we’re making” in Iraq - I believe him. So of course Rumsfeld is doing a great job. The country is a mess - just like it's supposed to be.

For more about that see:

Iraq: Bush has a plan, and it's working

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/HK03Ak01.html

It must be difficult, however to have a successful "plan" and not really be able to brag about it - because I think if people really got it and understood the plan - and that Bush is happy with what he is doing - just like he was happy with the way Katrina went - they would mostly :puke:

Of course the people who think that everything is great over there are delusional - or at least completely duped.
