Forgive! Forgive forgive forgive yay!

Behold the evangelical mantra. Behold the ideological candy corn covered in God's own cocaine. Apparently, there is nothing a devout Christian -- especially an evangelical Christian -- likes better that forgiving another sinner. Is there any sin, any "deviant" behavior, any sort of violent self-immolating hypocrisy that cannot be spun into this sweet revenue-earning manna for the religious right? Verily, it appears not.

And the fascinating part: the bigger and dirtier and more insulting the "sin," the more they get to forgive. The congregation even cheers when the violation reaches such epic proportions as Haggard's. What an opportunity! What a chance to forgive like never before! It's like seeing Elvis!


Gay man-sex is sad, but forgiveness is easy!


This, apparently, is the show. It is better than God. It is better than a live exorcism. This is what the evangelicals do. They forgive. They do not introspect, they do not reconsider a position, they do not open their hearts to a new idea and maybe look behind the so-called "sin" to see that the cosmic trickster might be trying to tell them something very, very important about their insular, homophobic, reactive ways. Nope, just forgive.

Who knows, maybe Haggard will inspire a great many more flamboyant preachers to confess their secret homosexual love. Hell, it sure brings a congregation together, no?

4. First pic makes me think of "The Wicker Man"

This really creeps me out for more than one reason.

First, the obvious creepiness of watching all those (predominantly white) people go glassy eyed and lose all sense of reason. That scares the crap out of me.

The second reason is just how gullible people are with the corollary of how easy it is for the right wing to use them as a loyal base of voters, one that is blind to rationality.

I have no doubt that those who seek to control these poor deluded people know a lot about the underlying pschology of mass religous gatherings.
