Democracy works
One of the biggest concerns of this election was that the Rove machine would use technology and other means to manipulate the election results. If that had happened, it would throw democracy itself into question. Although there was certainly some fraud, it was probably not on a massive nationwide scale. It was limited, I think, to a few corrupt organizations and individuals, and now with the Democrats in power, those people will hopefully be investigated and prosecuted. This of course does not mean that we don't need to fight to keep our elections honest, but that's a chronic battle that we should always take part in.

I think we owe a great debt to the various groups and websites, like Bradblog and Velvet Revolution, that helped make election fraud a national issue. I think those groups helped keep the Republican Party in line and helped compel the Democratic Party to take fraud seriously. I still think we should get rid of electronic voting machines and rely more on paper ballots and civic duty, rather than technology, to ensure honest elections. But, that said, I think the biggest victory this year is that our Democracy still works.
