5. While I agree with Mr. Chavez's assessment

of this administration, I personally agree with Nancy and think Hugo should go fuck himself. Rather than calling W the devil (he hates Clinton too), he should learn from us and give his people all the rights and freedoms we have. I know a lot of people here like him a lot, but I just can't support authoritarianism.

7. Before I waste a lot of time bitching vaguely about ..

.. Chavez's "authoritarianism," I'll concern myself with a few of the actions of my own government, including:

a national policy that includes claims that the president is entirely beyond the rule of law and that includes widespread domestic phonetapping (something Chavez has apparently not done);

a national policy that involves complete indifference to poor victims of a natural disaster such as Katrina, on the grounds that there will be a electoral benefit (something Chavez has apparently not done);

an international policy involving kidnapping and torture (something Chavez has apparently not done);

an unnecessary war that has caused tens to hundreds of thousands of deaths (something Chavez has apparently not done);

&c&c

I don't have to think Chavez is a saint to think that he is telling us something important about how much of the world sees our country ...
