I was looking forward to supporting Hackett when he was going to run for Senator in my district. I was disappointed when he was replaced with Sherrod Brown. I am very glad that Sherrod won. As it turns out Sherrod may have been a better candidate considering he has history in the area from being a congressman.
Do you think there's a future for Paul Hackett in politics? I like him a lot and would like to see back in the arena.
That is just the way a primary works. Sherrod entered the race. Paul dropped out. He could have stayed in and possibly won. It IS possible to do just that. Zack Space did it in the 18th. He was not the favorite candidate of the ODP or NDP. They supported Joe Sulzer and put their money behind him. Zack and his team simply out worked him and won by a large margin.
but Sherrod Brown is the ideal progressive. Many thought he could not win because of his Liberal voting record. They didn't know his skill in communicating messages. He was the right candidate at the right time.
Does Paul Hackett have a future in politics? I don't know. He needs to sit down and write a book spelling out his beliefs. From things that I have read about him, he is very much a conservative that hates Bush and dislikes party politics. Those qualifications might get him somewhere in SW Ohio.
What was so amazing about his campaign is that Dewine couldn't smear him with the label of being so liberal. Sherrod Brown connected with the message to the middle class. Dewine came out looking very whiny. He was definately the right candidate at the right time.
I'm just wondering what Hackett's next move might be. A book might be a good idea for him.
Senator Voinovich is up for re-election in 2008. That is going to a tough campaign. I'm not sure how Sherrod Brown would have done against Voinovich.
