Not Luis Garcia, a newly elected state representative who was running against a right-wing Cuban in a district that is 72 percent republicans or independents and includes Little Havana.

At 60 years old, Garcia is a lifelong democrat. After all, he says, it was Lyndon B. Johnson who first helped the Cubans arrive in this country with the Freedom Flights of the 1960s.

The former Miami Beach fire chief says Democrats are "responsible for most of the civil rights legislation and Democrats have proven throughout the years to be sensitive to the needs of working families."

1. Nice article...
And isn't the trend among younger Cubans AWAY from the Republican Party?

3. Yes, that is the trend of the sons and daughters of the old hardliners
And furthermore the Cubans who came here during the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s are not nearly as republican as the hardliners, who arrived here in the 1960s.

4. Thank you!!!1 ; The only Hispanics who are wingnuts are
the kernel of the original Cuban exiles, not even their 2nd and 3rd generations. With the occasional Ruben NAVARRETTE, another Affirmative Action type in the Clarence THOMAS mold who turned against all things AA and Dem--or is it that the AA schools flatter their consumers into "Devil's Advocate" thinking for the illusion of "smartness," going against the grain, against the settled thought of the home minority communities.

That said, the vast majority of Hispanics eligible to vote, just do NOT vote.
