Prediction: As Oversight Proceeds, Scandals Will Mount & Rs Will Tell * "It's Time To Go"
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 02:11 PM by stopbush
It will be a replay of Nixon.

The D oversight will rip away the curtain that has been hiding bushco's many illegal and ill-thought enterprises. The
level of corruption unveiled will make Foleygate look like a slight indiscretion. Bush's approval rating will sink into
the low 20s, as his former die-hard supporters - freed from their blind support by the results of election '06 and bush's
ever-worsening approval ratings - jump on the "I hate bush" bandwagon. And, as a final nail in the coffin, recently
ousted GOP politicos will begin issuing their tell-all books, preferring the talk show/book store circuit to the unemployment
lines.

At some point, the Republic Party will realize that their very existence as a party is threatened by their association
with bush. Faced with extinction, they will evolve and make the Barry Goldwater walk to 1600 to tell the president,

"It's Over."

1. Nixon Redux. I like it.
But even Nixon had more class than the Little Fake Cowboy.

6. Nixon's evil was founded in ideology and paranoia.
Bush's evil is founded in cheap religion and making a buck.

Nixon was truly Machiavellian. bush is just tawdry.

2. Nixon wouldn't have gone but that he knew he'd lose his trial in the Senate
Bush isn't going to let go either. But, Bush is a real chickenshit SOB and he'll do his best to blame everyone around him first.

I say let W's feet feel the fire. As long as he thinks we are ready to roast him he'll produce useful firings in his administration. He DID legalize torture for the best interest of the nation.

7. He'll play the "folksy" be nice to the Dems game for awhile
In hopes of staving off investigations, then after they start he'll resign quickly. There's really no reason for him to stay, his crappy legacy is already forged in stone.

8. I said the same thing to my husband this morning but here is how I see it
This handwriting is on the wall. ANY public scrutiny about any number of topics can bring this administration down and they know it. The first hearings will bring the initial writhings and claims of executive privelege - just as happened under Nixon and Clinton.
Anyway, they will :

1. Have Cheney resign and appoint someone as VP who could make a credible run for President. Unfortunately for Jebbie, Georgie has blown his chances, or I might hazard Guiliani or McCain and this will give them a nice jump-start on the election

2. Bush will resign earlier rather than later, because just too many people are involved in too many things and they need to plug the dyke at the first trickle.

9. I made the same point here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2942963&mesg_id=2943831 . I have a hard time understanding those who agree with Pelosi's "impeachment off the table" line of thinking. We are either a nation of laws, or we are not.

17. Could be..
.. but that doesn't mean he'll listen. He has a habit of doing whatever he wants.

But I basically agree - once it comes to the point where impeachment looks likely, they will find a way to scuttle it.
