Pack your bags and leave now. Doesnt matter what party you are in we the people sent you there to work and that means be present to vote and make our voices heard. No vote = no work = a resignation letter. frickin overpaid fat cat bastards. grrrrrrrr

Sheesh! Give them some room--abstaining is just as good as voting no. Whatever gets the job done should earn our thanks. Edited to clarify-- I'm assuming you are talking about the cloture vote.

4. The Republicans need 60 votes - we DON'T need 41
We just have to keep them from getting 60; therefore, abstaining on cloture is effectively a "no."

5. Abstention is fine with me
The magic number is 60, not 40.

6. Abstention = vote of NO when it comes to cloture
The requirement is 61 YES votes to end debate. If a Senator abstains, that does not go to fulfilling the requirements for YES votes.

8. I'm just tired of people ducking their responsibilities.
go back over the years and see how many of our paid representatives consistently "miss" voting.

9. NO! We want them to abstain! If they don't vote, the repukes won't
get their 61 freakin' votes! If they can't vote no, they need to abstain!
