You're Wrong, Nancy Pelosi; Impeachment is Your Constitutional Responsibility
"Impeachment is off the table.... It is a waste of time. Wouldn't they just love it if we came in and our record as Democrats coming forth after twelve years is to talk about George Bush and Dick Cheney. This election is about them. This is a referendum on them. Making them lame ducks is good enough for me."

Read with any kind of careful scrutiny, Pelosi's aforementioned statement embodies grand ignorance, audacious arrogance, or a combination of the two. Pelosi appeared to be paying little if any attention to what candidates were saying on the campaign trail about the major issues that would ultimately get them elected. ..

The CNN poll revealed that the largest number of voters surveyed, 42 percent, rated corruption and ethics in government as the most important issue determining their vote. According to The Washington Spectator, "Scandal-conscious voters favored Democrats by a 22 percent margin. As the indictments go, so goes the nation."...

Pelosi should be reminded that officeholders take an oath to preserve and defend the U.S. Constitution. In so doing, it is the responsibility of a Member of Congress to oversee that the document crafted by our Founding Fathers is not shredded in the interest of political expediency.

1. Being next in line for the presidency...
it behooves the Speaker of the House to keep an arm's distance from anything that would appear to be self-serving. Get wise, my friend. Pelosi cannot speak out for impeachment of Bush and Cheney. All they need to do is begin investigating all the lies and corruption and the uncovered facts should put the two criminals in the WH in the impeachment dock. Pelosi is a lot smarter than you are in stating that "she" is not interested in impeaching the standing executives but when the evidence exposes wrongdoing, why, the Congress must act to impeach.

2. Nancy Pelosi has not exactly been standing up to Bush until now
It couldn't hurt to start putting on some pressure for instance the idea of 500,000 impeachment letters to Nancy by January.

I think whether or not she is 'playing chess' ...

It is up to us to demand Impeachment loudly.

We the people have no reason to silence ourselves,

and no DUer should attempt to silence another in their cries for impeachment. It is the only right course of action. The evidence is already gathered. Bush has already admitted to breaking the law on national television- saying he would continue to wiretap illegally knowing full well it requires a court order. Constitutional scholars and FISA lawyers agree, Bush broke the law.

Pelosi would not exactly be reaching to say it is time to look into impeachment. In fact the majority voted FOR accountability so the majority of us would be impressed by Pelosi standing up for WE the PEOPLE.

So who does she want to impress, the majority of pro-thinking voting Americans or the backwash who wouldn't know what's right if it hit them in the arse?

8. I'm not attempting to silence anyone re: impeachment
It is not the responsibility of the Speaker to talk impeachment. Like I said earlier, that would seem so self serving as she would then become the president (assuming both Bush and Cheney are evicted). When you say the "evidence is already gathered" are you speaking metaphorically? I have not seen any Congressional reports of criminal activities proven in Congress. A series of investigations to allegations is what is needed. Continued and full investigation from each of the committees overseeing their responsibilities, environment, judicial, military, intelligence, Homeland Security (Katrina), energy, etc. The facts should come out during the course of these exhaustive investigations pointing to higher-ups, including the President and Veep. It would be THEN that impeachment proceedings would be called for. And Nancy Pelosi could only agree that her earlier statements of taking impeachment off the table was no longer valid as the overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing and criminal activity and war crimes called for an impeachment of those accused.

To call for impeachment now would seem like a fishing expedition with the Pres. and VP as primary targets - something we all would like to see - but would probably bear no fruit and hurt the Dems in the long run being seen as vengeance doers and not justice seekers.

6. Is it?

I have seen very few posts on impeachment- was thinking that we should still keep talking about it as Impeachment will only happen with constant pressure from US. We cannot squander the mandate of the last election.

7. I think your count may be a little low.
Impeachment would be a multi-ring circus distracting us from repairing the damage of the last 6 years. Reinstate the Geneva Conventions, recognize the World Court and get on with the repairs while taking the culprits out of circulation.

10. Conyers, Waxman and Leahy
will be the ones to lead the charge. Not Nancy Pelosi. It would not be appropriate for her to do so.

14. I want nothing less than impeachment
I don't care who does it. I don't care if it bucks protocol. I don't care if it oversteps any bounderies. I don't even care if a few Dems get dinged on the way down.

Not impeaching for what has transpired only means it will transpire again. It sets a precedent for any future President to do to this country what Bush has tried to do, and next time it will be worse because the groundwork has been laid.

Those not willing to impeach are enablers and traitors as far as I am concerned. We'll see who the brave, true patriots are and also those that just want to kowtow and protect their own asses and not rock the boat.

I have already decided to withhold my support and vote for anyone not supporting impeachment.
