Man Arrested After Telling Police His Pot Was Stolen (idiot alert)
Man Arrested After Telling Police His Pot Was Stolen

POSTED: 9:11 am EST February 1, 2006

OREM, Utah -- A man who called police to report his marijuana was stolen was arrested after police recovered the pot and invited him to come to the Public Safety Building to identify it.

Kory C. Tippetts, 18, of Orem, was arrested and booked into the Utah County jail for investigation of possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone with intent to distribute, police said Tuesday.

Tippetts called police Monday evening after someone broke a window, got cut on the glass and crawled into his home while he was away. He told police the only thing missing was a quarter-pound bag of marijuana he was selling.

Tippetts also told officers that a man called him about buying some marijuana earlier in the day, but Tippetts was on his way to work and told the caller no. He gave police the caller's name.

2. After they found the pot, he even went to the station to ID it.
That is when he got busted.

3. But what about the person who stole the pot, hm?
Are the police looking for the person who stole the pot? How's that investigation going?

7. I agree,
let's rank these crimes. Someone possessing marijuana should have the same legal protection against burglary as anyone else, right? I applaud your pointing this out, bluestateguy.

I seriously doubt the police had his pot. Sounds like just a sting, on someone who really invited it. The police could've put any "specimen" in the property line-up, or just collared this poor fella when he inquired in person.

6. As idiotic as this is....
I think it illustrates that every day more people are unaware of (or ignorant or choose to ignore) pot's illegality, despite DARE programs and other nonsense.
