*** DESPERATE *** last-minute appeal: STOP budget cuts being debated NOW
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 04:02 PM by Sapphire Blue
Budget cuts in the reconciliation bill will harm poor children and others!!

You can call your reps by using the Capitol Switchboard at 1-800-393-1082, 1-800-426-8073

The budget cuts that are soon to be voted upon impose further suffering on those least able to withstand it. Poor families will need to spend more for medical treatments and medicine, and students will find it harder to complete their studies if these cuts are allowed to be implemented. Poor children will be especially impacted by the proposed cuts.

To ask the least fortunate among us to bear a disproportionate burden as the result of wrong-headed tax breaks that benefit the wealthy and large corporations, while deepening the deficit and doing little to expand the economy, is just plain wrong.

They are debating it NOW! PLEASE call! There is little time left!

Call your reps through the Capitol Switchboard at 1-800-393-1082, 1-800-426-8073

Thank you!!!

(And Thank YOU, Wordie!!!)

For more info, please see this thread:

1. Calls are better, but here's a quick free online FAX/email site...
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 04:03 PM by Wordie
A call is best, but you can also send a FAX or email easily.

This site will do almost all the work for you! All you have to do is enter your zip and click "GO" and you'll be given all your reps, and can write just ONE letter to all of them!

http://capwiz.com/thedeanpeople/home/

Just enter your zip code, click go, and you'll be taken to a page with all your reps on it. Click the link toward the top that says "Write to ALL of your representatives with one click..." Then you can use the radio buttons to select an email (default), letter (don't use this, not enough time) or FAX message (probably the BEST to use NOW). The one message you write will be sent to everyone on the list, unless you deselect them, with the checkbox by their name. So select just your Congresspeople, and deselect Bush. It's really easy! DU it!

You can this message, if you wish, to save time. It's short, but to the point. Here it is:

The budget cuts that are soon to be voted upon impose further suffering on those least able to withstand it. Please do all you can to prevent these cuts from being enacted. Thank you.

Just copy the text above into the message box, fill out the rest of the info (they don't ask for a lot), and click to send! Easy! Fast!

POSTPONED PROCEEDINGS - At the conclusion of debate on H. Res. 653, the Chair put the question on adoption of the resolution and by voice vote, announced that the ayes had prevailed. 33. Looks like the Speaker tried to slime the bill through
Seems he tried to make a judgment call on a voice vote that the ayes had won. Having had his hand called on this, and facing a roll call vote, he has called a recess so that the GOP can regroup. This might mean they don't believe they have the votes to pass this outrage.

I'll bet they are now getting the DeLay arm-twisting squad together, and are planning on holding the vote open until the vote swings in their favor, or until Hell freezes over, whichever comes first.

Just my personal asessment of what I think is going on in the House right now. Please don't flame me, my feelings are easily hurt.

I would hardly flame you. I appreciate the info. I didn't really catch what was going on and what you said makes a lot of sense, and is also in many ways good news. If they are worried about getting enough votes, that must mean there is a chance to stop the cuts. I hope they have enough votes to stop any shenanigans by Delay.

this moment is a glimmer of hope. At the very least, we shold be taking notes, to rub the GOP's noses in their yes votes this November. Boy, I hope we win this one. I think this important vote is being missed by many, on account of other developments.

57. Did it pass? I've written and called McHugh over this a few times.
He voted nay last time and said he would probably again this time. He darn well better if he wants to have a chance at getting re-elected up here.

Dammit... this is so important and needs to get shot down... so many people have forgotten the old adage of "there but by grace go I". My eldest daughter, almost 28, lost her job, hasn't been able to find another and she and her SO are now expecting my first grandbaby in mid April. He's got a job but it pays only $7. hr., no overtime pay (straight timeeven if 80 hours), no benies and since he works on the Indian Res he may not get NY's increase of minimum wage... they NEED this kind of help. She never in million years thought she'd have to be accepting help from social services but they need to have Medicaid, food stamps and HEAP to just get by until she has the baby and can get a new job when a few new stores open in the late Summer/Fall.

78. Thanks for your help!
