he's at 3M talking to employees and they are grinning from ear to ear. I would like to know what the fuck they are grinning about.Something is wrong somewhere what damn country do these people live in.

I know damn well these people can not be looking up to this dumb arrogant bastard and are believing the shit he is spouting. Everyone has family or someone that they know whose life has been effected negatively in some way by these hypocrites. The words in the speeches don't match the facts.

senator Kyl - AZ (unfortunately one of my senators) was talking about people with adjusted gross incomes of less than $100,000 being heavily invested in the stock market because of the tax cuts. most of the people i know are paying their bills not investing in the stock market. i, myself am very fortunate -- my husband has a good paying job -- we had some of his 401k in the stock market, but i moved it all into a stable income fund. we're too close to retirement to be playing around in the market.

"stable income fund" may be a risky strategy on two counts:

1) inflation may erode the value of your assets, as income funds which own bonds are particularly vulnerable to inflation

2) rising interest rates (sometimes a by-product of rising inflation, although not always) may chip away at the underlying value of your assets, as bond prices move inversely to interest rates, i.e., when current interest rates go up, current bond prices go down.

I'm not sure how close you are to retirement age, so a lot depends on your time horizon.

25. my husband is 58. wants to work till 62 or longer. the stable

value fund that we have changes interest rates as they go up. i'm very comfortable with that right now. actually we're hoping that we won't even have to touch this money (401k) because he will be getting a nice pension and social security. it might just be a cushion in case of some emergency.

when we had money in stocks back in the clinton years we made money, but the years after that everything started going down. i'm glad i'm out of it. i'd rather have less money and know that it's secure.

A stable value fund (as I understand it) offers a higher rate of return than the standard money market fund (through various short-term loan vehicles), but still seeks to preserve capital. Stable value funds have a lot less interest rate risk than traditional bond funds, especially long- and intermediate-term bond funds.

With only four years until retirement, your decision to preserve capital seems eminently sensible and I don't think you necessarily would want to change a thing. You might, however, want to consider looking into real estate or gold mutual funds as a potential hedge against hyperinflation, but maybe only put a very small percentage (no more than 5%) into them.
