Pat Buchanan: Cakewalk Crowd Abandons Bush
Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan, said a rueful John F. Kennedy after the Bay of Pigs.
George W. Bush knows today whereof his predecessor spoke.

For as he prepares to "surge" 20,000 more U.S. troops into a war even he concedes we "are not winning,"
his erstwhile acolytes have begun to abandon him to salvage their own tattered reputations.

Case in point, the neoconservatives. As the Iraq war heads into its fifth year, more than half a dozen
have confessed to Vanity Fair's David Rose their abject despair over how the Bushies mismanaged the war
that they, the "Vulcans," so brilliantly conceived.

Surveying what appears an impending disaster for Iraq and U.S. foreign policy, the neocons have advanced
a new theme. The idea of launching an unprovoked war of liberation, for which they had beaten the drums
for half a decade before 9-11, remains a lovely concept. It was Bushie incompetence that fouled it up.

5. Are there any articles you can point me to indicating the
'neocons' are banging the Iranian war drums? I know someone is, but the source remains elusive.

Sinking the Ship of State.."The Little Captain Paces"

The little captain paces

Smiles are nowhere to be had
Everywhere he looks
The news is all bad
The journey's been one for the books

The little captain paces

Rumors of leaks spread
Get the buckets..bail bail bail
The listing ship is full of dread
The little captain's looking quite frail

The little captain paces

The coastline's out of sight
The ship used to be so strong
Confidence has turned to fright
What could have gone so wrong

The little captain paces

Nose first..down she goes
People claw each other to stay dry
It's sinking, and everyone knows
Some plead, some pray and some cry

The little captain no longer paces

Mad splashing is all around
Everyone's in the water , and how
Only one life vest is found
The little captain says "throw it here..NOW"

The little captain no longer looks at their faces

One by one they go down, with a kiss blown his way
Down, down, and finally under
The little captain's patience is beginning to fray
"Where is all my people?..I wonder..wonder"

The little captain is saved

They are back with him, as he takes note
He paddles to all his supporters
As he climbs on each, he embraces their bloat
He's so thankful there are no reporters

The little captain is still afloat

3. No amt of competence could've made this war a success. It was doomed from the getgo. I just hope
the Neocons don't have a 'new and improved' Neoconservatism in the works, with more 'competent' shock and awe pre-emptive military attacks and occupation of unarmed, bankrupt nations, all justified with lies. I hope they understand it's foolhardy now and it will be foolhardy the next time, no matter which Neocon Bozo is Commander in Chief.

9. They blame bush, and bush blames everyone else in the world but himself.
Never have I seen people who deserve each other more than this insane gang of war-mongerers.

10. Locking.
Do not quote or link to bigoted websites, or websites that republish content from bigoted websites. While many of these websites are easily identifiable, some are less obvious at first glance. Please be aware that even some anti-Bush websites also include bigoted content and are therefore not welcome here.

Do not quote or link to "conspiracy theory" websites, except in our September 11 forum, which is the only forum on Democratic Underground where we permit members to debate highly speculative conspiracy theories. A reasonable person should be able to identify a conspiracy theory website without much difficulty.
