Wes Clark : Diplomacy the SMART SURGE: Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/07/AR2007010700980.html

What the surge would do is put more American troops in harm's way, further undercut the morale of U.S. forces and risk further alienating elements of the Iraqi populace. American casualties would probably rise, at least temporarily, as more troops appeared on the streets -- as happened in the summer when a brigade from Alaska was extended and sent into Baghdad. And even if the increased troop presence initially frustrated the militias, it wouldn't be long before they found ways to work around the neighborhood searches and other obstacles, if they chose to continue the conflict.....more

1. That's the thing - they would just lay low for a bit - regroup - gather their
strength. And then when we go - or when we reduce troop levels, out of the rabbit hole they would pop.

Its not the first thing on his agenda....he is trying to use his words to inform the American People and the World. Its COUNTRY over Politics. Wish the other side felt that way...

5. I don't know - perhaps I misspoke
I meant to say that if we surged in the insurgents would lay low - giving us the illusion of success, but when we left or lowered troop levels they would pop back out.

I'm talking about the situation in Iraq, not our local political situation.

3. The problem is
that we don't really know who we're fighting in Iraq....or for that matter, who's side we're on.

Throwing more troops into the fray without a clear vision of our mission is insane.

4. General Clark keeps trying to point out the obvious to the bush
cabal even though reality is an anathema to them, they continue to live in their delusional bubble because the real world deems them as abject failures and that, in their pea-brains, is unacceptable.

Kudos to General Clark for trying to break through that bubble, I hope he succeeds soon!
