I shit you not - FAITH-BASED SLASHER MOVIES!
"When a young seminary student is targeted by a psychopathic killer, he joins forces with a criminal psychologist whose brother was murdered by the same madman!"

Yes, it's "Thr3e", brought to you by those talented, agenda-free chaps at the new home of artistic integrity - FOX Faith Movies!

Watch the trailer and revel in the blistering originality and cinematic innovation! Or just laugh your ass off at the stupidest of stupid crap!

Those of a nervous disposition should steer clear, though - it's rated *gasp* PG-13!

3. Since The Exorcist, religious institutions have been using horror movies...
...to promote their agendas. Think about it - some horrible evil takes over a person/town/whatever and the only way to thwart it is the hero/heroine's religious rite/faith in God/holy relic. It's advertising for religion disguised as entertainment.

4. with a whopping 9% at Rotten Tomatoes!
"Consensus: Thr3e is a shoddily made, thrill-free thriller that isn't half as good as the several movies it borrows from (Adaptation, Saw, Se7en)."

5. Anyone remember "Night of Dark Shadows"?
Suppose you could call that a faith based movie- they had to use trophies crucifixes to kill the vampires...and Jonathan Frid really WAS to die for...

7. "Relentlessly mediocre," "Astronomically awful"!
Too bad they didn't make it just a little campier, or it could have actually been fun to watch (just for laughs).

8. I do sort of want to see the nutty mother...
since she's supposed to be absolutely (and unintentionally) hilarious. Maybe this could end up alongside Plan 9 (or maybe it's so awful that it wishes it were that good!).

10. "Relentless mediocre"
A lot of metal-heads think the same thing about "Christian metal".

I wouldn't have a problem with it at all if it was good metal, but it just isn't.

As far as I am concerned, the "soul" in Christian music still lies in the gospel singers. Those musicians know how to let it hang out....popular Christian rock stars and metal-heads are sad and mediocre, from my experience.

Seem like Christian horror falls in the same category...ininspired. Really a shame considering that they all state their works are "God-inspired". Give the poor diety more credit, then!!!

14. It's kind of an insult to their deity, isn't it?
I think that if an omnipotent being really did take a hand in creating a movie, it probably wouldn't suck eggs like this one does.

18. Actually, Stryper was one of the better ones (not that they were good)
Not that they were REALLY a Christian band, either. Tim Gaines got busted for coke and the band has openly admitted to not really giving a crap about Jesus beyond album sales. The popularity of Stryper has a negative effect because instead of inspiring metalheads to go for Jesus, they inspired church girls to go for metalheads.

But their music was still lame like so many hair bands back then. Good for campiness sakes and that alone.

12. It's about the MONEY
From the "discussion guide" for ministers:

"it is
recommended that you announce
your intentions of using the film
clips ahead of time. For example,
the week before you intend to
have a clip-oriented discussion,
you might show the film trailer
(included with the clips) to
your group or congregation and
let them know that you will
incorporate it into your discussion
the following week (or the next
time you meet). This will allow
your members the opportunity
to view the film themselves (rent
or purchase) if they so desire."

http://www.foxfaithmovies.com/thr3e/images/three_discussion.pdf

Any minister that uses this movie in their church is a complete TOOL.

13. There have been a few of these. Echoes of Innocence is one that
comes to mind, but from what I've heard, they are pretty dreadful.

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0368413/

a mishmash of Heathers, Scream, and The Craft with a thin Christian veneer

Clearly a lot of care went into making this. Technical credits are solid, and most of the acting is at least competent. However, the script is a mess, and the editing is downright incompetent. Each character is a walking cliché that can be described with one adjective. The ending is simultaneously ludicrous and painfully obvious. While much of what occurs on screen is more than a little silly, the tone is uniformly somber throughout. There is almost no dialogue between the two lead characters, but we are treated to TWO lengthy montage sequences of them in "deep meaningful conversation." Yet we are supposed to believe that they are soulmates. There is NO insight into the lives of teenagers, and no serious or reflective discussion of faith. Mysteries (of the mundane rather than the spiritual variety) are brought up and then never explained. The sneering no-dimensional villain is taken out by a deus ex machina that's a cow.

15. I don't want to see their movies, but at least they are making their own these days
Instead of constantly harping on how corrupt our culture is, they are providing an alternative for those who want it.

16. Actually most slasher movies are "Faith Based"
I mean only the virgin survives while all the "bad" girls get killed by the killer(IE the hand of God)I remember one Friday the 13th movie when they killed a character for gluttony rather than promiscuity. Truth be told the slasher films of the early eighties reflected this black and white morality.
