What do y'all think? Should we cajole him into unseating arch-rival "Mean Jean" Schmidt? Anyone still have a way to contact the guy?

1. you mean she got re-elected???
I think there are just some districts where you cannot win. Like the Duckworth race too.

:(

2. wrong.

Christine Cegalis would have won that district (IL-6). But there were people who didn't want people like her in office & went out of their way to make sure she lost the primary. Do a little googling and investigate the matter.

On edit: I thought Victoria Wulmser was a credible candidate as well, with a little backing she would have done better, too.

3. I don't see him responding to a draft, much as I'd like to see him in office.

I, like many others here, was High On Hackett early last year, then he got smacked down by the party leadership and he withdraw not only from the race but from political life. I said then that I hoped his absence was merely temporary (and not even as long as Nixon's hiatus in the 60s.) I hope to see him return to politics someday, but it'll be on his own timetable and on his own terms.

It will take more than grassroots efforts to get him to change his mind, I think; he'll need persuading from above as well.

4. On the contrary, I think his actions today may have made his '08 campaign bulletproof
It's the same "bounce" effect that caused so many people to support FDNY after 9/11. Those men were genuine heroes for their actions, and the same phenomenon could very well happen to Hackett.

5. It's not a question of whether his campaign is "bulletproof" or not.
The question is, does he want to run? And I'm saying I don't think he'll be interested in a draft, that's all.

6. That's why I'm looking for contact info for Hackett...
We need to let him know that there are still tons of Democrats who support him and want him to step back in politics again, Schumer and the DCCC be damned.

7. Well, there is one link on Wikipedia that is still active.
It's for his law offices; pretty much all his political sites have been taken down.
