12. The repub CEO just stepped down. Moyers steps up.
I saw his speech from this last week. Absolutely incredible. He discussed his experience during LBJ's presidency, and the creation of PBS as the people's media. He made it clear he intended to step back in.

He wants to make powerful people with things to hide, very uncomfortable. Moyers is responsible for a lot of the frantic spin that has come out of the republican administrations. He's going to be a force for good things in the media.

33. He is the reason we signed up for TIVO
Our NC PBS station didn't have him on (like the rest of the country) at 9pm, Friday night. They scheduled him at 2pm on Sundays, which interfered with football for us. I wrote to PBS twice and got a lame answer as to the reasons for the change for NC....we are no longer contributing to PBS!

42. I just sat next to Bill Moyers and his wife at the Martin Luther King/John Edwards
event in Riverside church in the Bronx.

He's an amazing peaceful presence.

While the crowd applauded and stood to applaud all the speakers, including John Edwards, he kept his opinions under wraps. That's the journalist. Not wanting to appear to have an agenda.

He is quiet and warm and gentle. I asked to sit in his pew. He and his wife were on the end. When I asked if we could sit down he stood and smiled and with that voice said, "Of course." As soon as I heard him, I said, "Oh God! You're Bill Moyers! What an honor to meet you!" And he held out his hand to shake mine, and his wife did, as well. Then, he said hello to my boyfriend.

He's so still and gentle and quiet. Wow. His wife was equally elegant and still. It was an honor to be near this deep man.

At the end, they had the whole church stand and sing "We shall overcome." Everyone joined hands, and so my boyfriend got to hold his wife's hand. I just wish I could have been 2 seats over in the pew.....

It was lovely. No one mentioned him from the podium, so, I think he went there unnanounced. Other celebrities in the audience were mentioned, like Henry Bellafonte, and Wiener and Chuck Schumer were there. Bu no one seemed to know about Bill, or they would have introduced him.

At the end, I saw him go up to the front, to all the dignitaries, including Martin's son Martin the III.

John was great. Look for my post about John. I'll talk about him there. He'll probably put it on his website, anyway at www.johnedwards.com.
