"I loathe Lieberman with the power of a thousand white hot suns."
Edited on Sun Jan-14-07 05:55 PM by Bluebear
by Cenk Uygur

We we right. The people of Connecticut should have never trusted Joe Lieberman. One third of Democratic voters in Connecticut voted for Lieberman in the general election against Ned Lamont. And they screwed the whole country. We could have had a real Democrat in that seat. Or at least someone who isn't madly in love with George Bush. I wish Joe knew how to quit him.

First, Senator Lieberman pretended to be a concerned moderate on Iraq during the election and then immediately showed how extreme he is right after the election. There was no more talk about finding the best possible way out of Iraq. Instead, Lieberman immediately embraced escalation.

How many Democratic votes do you think Lieberman would have gotten in Connecticut if he had been honest and told the voters that he planned to support an escalation of the Iraq War as soon as he was elected? Not very many. That's why he had to lie, like he always does.

If you think that's too harsh, you haven't seen the latest news. During the 2006 election, Lieberman promised to hold hearings on how the Bush administration handled Hurricane Katrina if he was elected. He would be the head of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. He would be the one that would make the decision on what hearings to hold and what documents to demand from the White House. He promised he would hold them accountable. Of course, as always he was lying. Instead, he has just announced that he will hold no such hearings and that he will ask for none of the documents that could show how the administration mishandled the crisis. Heaven forbid that he should do his job....

1. Why can't a Senator be impeached for lying about his position on the issues?
There should a lemon law for politicians.

11. Can the voters that voted for him SUE him for outright lying????
Something needs to give here. If there isn't a law, can we fight for the right law that this doesn't happen again?

7. The CT GOP paid dearly
to get him elected, it was obvious during the election who was supporting him so how can they be shocked now that he is doing what he is? The dem leaders who did not support Lamont, who figured that we won no matter who won that race sold us all out and I would like to know why they did that. I'm not buying the 'if only we knew then what we know now' argument again from them.

50. I would love to ask those "I'm stickin' with Joe" sign displayers during
the general campaign if they're happy now. They can't be happy with his cheerleading Bush on the war and the Katrina deal. I'm sure they thought that Joe was at least ethical and honorable. Now they must know the awful truth and it's got to hurt. I'm just sorry that their bad karma is everybody's now. And it's their fault for enabling him.

15. I must confess,
I too loathe Joe Lieberman, extra-especially positively after he gave Bush a pass on letting New Orleans drown. Watching him on Meet The Press today was like sitting buck naked on a nest of fire ants. My contempt for Joe approaches that of the Decider's contempt for people like you and me. Every time I see that he's gone on Sean Hannity's little hatefest, every time I see him step in front of a camera, every time I hear him whine on some phony news outlet, I break out in a rash of horrifying little blisters that seem to pop up with Joe-pus.

Okay, I feel slightly better now. But I'm still pissed off after seeing his smiling mug on my television catapulting the revolting Bush propaganda. Ugh.

35. Is it all starting to make sense to people, now? They had no intention of a lefty Dem winning
the oval office in 2004 or Connecticut senate in 2006. They NEED to keep the left Dems pushed aside so they have no say while the coverup Dems are tapped to advance.

In 2008 the only Dems the establishment powerbase will support fully is another coverup Dem like Clinton. Protecting secrecy and privilege is a Bush-Clinton game.

They are Louis J. Freeh (former FBI Director), Newt Gingrich (former Speaker of the House, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) -- shouldn't that be I-CT??? -- and R. James Woolsey, Fmr. Director of CIA. Great group!

Bill Kristol, Richard Perle, and Frank Gaffney were all PNAC signatories, IIRC.

Sen. Charles Schumer???? Interesting. . .

Donna Brazile? I knew she was not really a Democrat. She and Holy Joe really did a job on President Gore.

The role of the Israeli right wing in lobbying for the US invasion of Iraq is a legitimate topic. Iraq was never a threat to the US. Only to Israel.

But I'll defend the admins here a bit. Yes, AIPAC has too much influence on both Republicans and Democrats. As do other lobbies like the NRA. It affects getting a truly neutral policy in the Middle East, as I think there's wrong on both sides. But it seems a bit much to me to say that the whole Congress is controlled or that people have duel-loyalties.

42. Lieberman HAD to keep his seat or the INSURANCE Cos. would abandon the Dem party.
That's just the reality of the situation, and people in power know it.

That's why New Orleans has been abandoned.

Any deal to help the people of New Orleans must bail out the Insurance Cos and insure that premiums for poor black people go up, or else they will not be allowed to return to their homes.

That's why we have laws in this country designed to prevent people from buying a house or car without mandated private insurance coverage - and in some states, mandated private health insurance.

Mandated premiums, mandated profits for a chosen few firms.

Masscare, Hillarycare, all opponents of single-payer, all in opposition to reining in insurance cos.

That's why Andres Duany, the famous urban theorist,
was hired by Haley Barbour to restore the Gulf Coast.

He promptly declared that "in the future, only rich people
will be allowed to live south of the RR tracks."

I kid you not. He elaborated: The insurance premiums on their environment-destroying, "neotraditional" beachfront condos will be too high. It would be positively cruel to ask the previous owners and renters to return, only to be hit with the new, higher premiums and code
requirements mandated by law -- laws written by insurance cos in Louisiana and Mississippi -- they will be forced to sell.

To rich people who can afford the premiums, of course.

Nothing we can do about THAT -- right?
