Going to try my first picture post...
...you should see here a photo of a Vietnam memorial I worked on in the 80's which is a larger than life bronze in upstate NY. It was cast by the old "parrafin perdue" method in Bridgeport Ct.I worked on a lot of this with about 5 other wax workers but the M-16 and strap were my own, working from an armory weapon and then forming a positive scaled for the figures which are approximately 8' tall....

If I hosed this up you can visit the memorial site at

http://Vietnam.smoke-eater.org

I hope...

10. What an honor
it must have been to use your talents on the Rensselaer County Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. And five years of fund raising? All should be proud who worked on this project.

15. That's an amazingly powerful piece.
I remember standing next to it, weeping at the horror of it all, and I was born at the end of the Vietnam war. Here I was, someone who'd never been through it, crying at the loss of life and fear the survivors felt just trying to get home in one piece. It's that strong.

22. Thank you for your work
I have lived near Troy for many years and I did not know anything about this memorial till now, other than it was about the war in VietNam. Thank you for sharing this photo with DU. I will think about you the next time I see the statue, as well as about the casualties in VietNam, and how similar the war in Iraq is to that horrible conflict.
