This one goes out to the good people of New Orleans.

As many of you may know, I'm a guitar player.

I went to Philly to visit my family over the Christmas holiday, and I ran into a guy who used to manage me back in the day and was responsible for my moving to New York. I had sent him a version of an old Procol Harum song that I re-recorded on a whim about a month ago, and he was sufficiently impressed to take it around to a few of our old friends in the business.

When I met with him in Philly, he approached me about doing a 6-song EP of music in the style of old-school guitarists like Hendrix (my all-time hero) and Robin Trower. He surprised me by telling me that he'd already gotten a commitment for help in promoting the CD from a couple of people that used to work with my band back in the day.

Well, I started recording over the weekend, and I've got a demo of the first track. It's called 'World Fall Down,' and the lyrics are about the plight of the people of New Orleans. Figured I'd share it with all you DUers.

The MP3 is here: http://blah3.com/mp3/world-fall-down-edit.mp3

If you want to hear the procol Harum tune, it's here: http://blah3.com/mp3/wsop.mp3

More background about the project and the song is at http://www.blah3.com/article.php?story=20070116021333258

Thanks for listening.

On Edit:

Here are the lyrics.

I was talkin' to a friend of mine
Said today the sun won't shine
All this hurt and misery
Is makin' me lose my mind

Been livin' on lonely street
Nobody gonna rescue me
Ever since the rain came down
Desolation's all I see

The Good Book says to mind your neighbor
But my neighbors all done gone away
Bible talks about a Day Of Retribution
When that day comes, somebody's gonna pay

Damn that dirty water, done made the world fall down

Take a look at this angry crowd
They wanna get their due somehow
All those politican's words
Doin' nothin' to help them now

Ask the people, they'll tell you so
Only want to come back home
This place is all they know
But they can't live here no more

All these people left with nothin'
Nobody knows what tomorrow's gonna bring
All this talk about brother helping brother
Whole lotta words but they just don't mean a thing

Damn that dirty water, done made the world fall down

3. I hope you don't mind, but I downloaded your tune "World Fall Down"
It means a lot to me that you would write a song about us... I can't seem to write anything these days, especially about the Crescent City. I dig the Electric Ladyland-like ending too, and how you were able to pay tribute to Jimi while at the same time finding your own voice.

I gave up playing his music over 20 years ago when I switched to classical guitar (with a bit of flamenco thrown in), but I was driving to Bilbao, Spain the other day and my brother put on "Are You Experienced;" I really enjoyed hearing his music again with fresh, albeit seasoned ears. :)

shades of Stevie Ray in there, at least to my ear. You can play that gitfiddle, boy! :applause: That's one tune from Procol Harum that escaped me back in the day I guess. I'm glad you resurected it and are sending it out to the folks in NOLA. They sure need the help.

Very well done. VERY WELL DONE!! :applause:
