I Thought the Iraqi Execution was Barbaric - until I remembered out
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 12:38 PM by leftyladyfrommo
last one. Where they goofed up the part with the needle and it took 34 minutes for the poor guy to die.

We have no room to talk about being barbaric.

So which is more horrible - a fast death but your head falls off and rolls across the floor.

Or a slow death but you get to keep your head.

(I'm am anti death penalty in all cases)

1. More horrible
is a society that thinks the death penalty is ok when it is in reality a veiled act of revenge

8. Death Penalty makes absolutely no sense to me.
Sure some of these guys are monsters and society is definitely safer with them locked up.

But so often by the time they execute someone - year's after the fact - that person has changed so much that they are not even executing the person who committed the crime.

I just don't believe in the death penalty for anyone. I just don't see that it accomplishes anything at all. And besides that - it's just barbaric.

I've had to make an exception for Dick Cheney if that blessed day should ever arrive.

10. Your reply reminds me of a satire record I had years ago
It was made by a fellow who imitated Nixon and the other famous people of that time. It was called "Richard Nixon: A Fanatsy", and at the end, Nixon gets imprisoned and is sentenced to go to the electric chair. A voice comes on saying, "I'm George McGovern, and I think killing is wrong. But in this case I'm willing to make an exception."

3. A Dutch government minister on television last night called the Iraqi executions
barbaric, and when asked if executions in the US were also barbaric, he replied that they most definitely are.

7. I agree with him 100%
I accidentally saw the Saddam execution on a local news station in Madrid, and was very upset the USA helped perpetrate that crime against humanity.

6. One thing to think about
maybe it was an act and they are not really dead. They can do wonderful things with videos these days.

I think it is better to lock up the bad guys. This goes for all war criminals

9. DP
I am for the DP in murder cases only
In my opinion when other people murder someone else, they lose their right to live, simple.
I can see your view also, I dont want this thread to be a 'yelling' match.
There have been numerous people in the US that have never taken life seriously, and have
killed dozens of times without cause or emotion, they are the ones that I dont have any sympathy
for when they are put to death with the DP.
