Bush chides Iraq over Hussein execution - looked like "kind of a revenge killing"
Bush chides Iraq over Hussein execution

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Tuesday the chaotic execution of Saddam Hussein looked like "kind of a revenge killing" and showed that the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki "has still got some maturation to do."

In his toughest assessment yet, Bush criticized the circumstances of Saddam's hanging and the execution of two top aides, including Saddam's half brother.

"I was disappointed and felt like they fumbled the — particularly the Saddam Hussein execution," the president said in an interview PBS' Jim Lehrer.

"The message is that it's a confusing message," the president said. "It basically says to people, `Look, you conducted a trial and gave Saddam justice that he didn't give to others. But then, when it came to execute him, it looked like it was kind of a revenge killing.' And it sent a mixed signal to the American people and the people around the world."

"And it just goes to show that this is a government that has still got some maturation to do," Bush said in the interview, to be telecast Tuesday evening on PBS' "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer."

10. Did HE ask for the rope that hung Saddam to display next to the gun?
I can see it hanging in that little room off the Oval Office tastefully hung next to the gun :sarcasm:

6. Maliki has "some maturation to do",
that coming out of Bush's mouth is a joke. He was disappointed they fumbled the execution. I guess we do it better in this country, after all, Bush should know he presided over quite a few. In my mind any execution is a revenge killing, so in Bush's mind if it was done right people around the world would have been OK with it.

It's absolutely hideous. As if his actions aren't bad enough, his speech adds salt to the wound.

17. Who talks like that?
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 06:12 PM by Marie26
It truly is painful to listen to him. His sentences are so jarring, so disjointed and ugly, that it really makes me wonder about his mental state. This man went to Harvard, after all. He should have picked up some basic grammar along the way. I think some linguist should do an in-depth study on how Bush uses language - it'd be pretty illuminating.
