Waxman Turns the Key in the House Oversight Committee's Ignition: Thursday

: )

I wonder if it's standing-room only? I'm hearing that a lot of MSM plans to devote top-tier, veteran reporters to his committee from the word go.

- Dave

P.S. If time allows, I'll swing by and give an eyewitness report for DU.

3. Maybe we should all send an email of encouragement?
Anyone have his e/m addy? These people need to know they have support. He's in a vulnerable position and he shouldn't be alone in his fight.

6. won't happen. I'll put money on it. Watch for some emergency or terra alert
or some other disruption by Team Bush. Watch for it, anticipate, and prepare for it. Waxman's efforts will be lost in the flotsam and jetsam.

... are wise to that tactic. That, plus they've been treated professionally at all stages by Waxman's folks.

27. I know you don't want us to get our hopes up because of all
the coruption that has prevented justice from doing it's job, but it's time to think it's possible. We all need to hang tough, and know that it is our time now. Nothing less will do. Not after all the twists and turns that have taken this country by the brink. Hang tough. Because the ignition will be starting. Please buckle up, and stay alert.

12. Does anyone know what is expected to happen at this meeting...
The link says virtually nothing, simply that it is an organizational meeting which does not mean a whole lot. That being said I do realize that Waxman is ready to launch some serious investigations, I am just wondering if we know what is on the agenda for Thursday.

15. I Suspect...
... that he'll lay out some ground rules for the media.

Incidentally, the GOP members have been selected now, too: http://oversight.house.gov/about/members.asp

Chris Shays of CT is a good GOP member to have on the committee, and may help provide air cover on more controversial subpoenas.

21. more info on the committee, rules & responsibilities

Representative Henry A. Waxman, Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, announced the appointment of the Democratic members of the committee for the 110th Congress.

"I am pleased that the Leadership has appointed such talented and experienced members to the committee," said Chairman Waxman. "Our committee has the responsibility to conduct oversight and provide accountability, and I am confident this new team of members will investigate important issues fairly and effectively."

22. Logistics question.....
.... If Waxman's Committee is not being covered on CSPAN and/or MSM outlets, it would be useful to have regular updates throughout the day to know what is going on. However, I understand that security measures now would prevent individuals from taking any electronic devices inside and live blogging from the site -- if you know, is that correct?

I don't doubt for a minute that the MSM will be drawn to covering Waxman's Committee, but sometimes the MSM is clueless as to what is really news or important.

23. Waxman's Staff...
... may end up pioneering committee self-publishing on the Internet.

Failing that, I imagine resourceful folks who know their way around the Capitol know where the wireless hotspots are.

26. Committee Staff self-publishing would be a real public service....
.... after all, these matters are of vital interest to the public.

The regular updates on MSM will likely have a biased spin that more seasoned watchers will be expecting, but to the public tuning in for the first time these spin sessions will likely misinform as much as inform them.

32. Cost-Effective Now, Too
Whereas in the past, this was prohibitively expensive and/or technical, now it's pretty easy.

Plus, if even a single committee made noise about doing this sort of end-run around C-SPAN and the MSM, I am willing to bet that C-SPAN would fall into line quickly, just to keep everything under their umbrella. There's really no reason why there shouldn't at least be audio of every hearing that takes place.
