Has anyone heard anything on the Horse Slaughter Bill?

call back all the Peace Corps workers, stop filling potholes and everyone focus on the one issue you deem is most important and should be the only one dealt with.

people are dying from lack of meds, lower standards for air and water, then there is that war thing-y, genocide in various places and a whole lotta unconstitutional stuff going on, and an economy that leaves little opportunity for working class kids besides enlisting to be used as fodder for the war profiteers' gain.

I don't get to pick the priorities, but I get to help pick the reps who do. And they are doing OK jumping on the pressing issues that affect the widest segments of the whole population.

Thank goodness they put the minimum wage ahead of horses. People are going into debt just trying to keep the car in gas so they can get to work to BARELY earn enough to keep a roof over their children's heads.

Go ahead and attack ME by making remarks that the agenda should be based on MY priorities when all I did was point out that the OP was sorta expecting his/her own order to be observed by Congress> :wtf: Nice try. :rofl:

Where did you ever get the notion I don't care about the horses? And where did you get the notion I criticized you for not caring about other issues?

Simply pointing out that legislators have a lot to deal with and some issues will have to sit a spell.

Take it personally if you insist, it was never meant that way. Just pointing out that there are many really crucial issues to deal with and triage does occur.

Tell ya what, I'll leave you alone, IF you reciprocate, cuz you are not hearing what I am actually saying so it's pointless to continue.

But I have to agree with Jilln. Your tone of your reply was a little off.
If you didn't have the answer to the question, then a reply probably wasn't even necessary. I asked the question knowing full well that legislators have a full plate. I don't remember saying they should consider this topic first! Unfortunately, we got exactly what you meant. It has nothing to do with taking it personally.

I got an email about this the other day, from the Humane Society...

This is what they said:

Time ran out for the legislation in the Senate during 2006, following an overwhelming House vote, but support is even stronger in 2007. Related legislation protecting America's wild horses and burros from slaughter has already been introduced.

4. I Heard it was coming up again in the next few days and just

wondered if anyone knew when. I do believe it is important and that is why I take an interest in it. I rescued a horse that was headed to slaughter. I also am a firm believer that people that abuse animals will also abuse people.

Legislators introduced horse slaughter prevention bills simultaneously Jan. 17 in both the United States House of Representatives and Senate in an effort to increase public awareness. Last year the bill was passed in the House with a 263 to 146 vote, but the Senate adjourned before members were able to vote on the bill.

Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana introduced the "Virgie S. Arden American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act," along with Nevada Sen. John Ensign and 11 original co-sponsors, according to a Humane Society of the United States press release. In the House, Reps. Janice Schakowsky, Ed Whitfield, John Spratt, and Nick Rahall, introduced the bill with 61 original co-sponsors.

"The time has come to put an end to the practice of slaughtering horses in America," said Ensign, one of two veterinarians in Congress. "Horses have an important role in the history of our country, particularly the West, and they deserve our protection. As a senator and a veterinarian, I am committed to doing what I can for these magnificent animals."

Earlier this month, Rahall and Whitfield introduced a slaughter ban on wild horses, and Kentucky Sen. Tom Buford introduced a horse slaughter bill for his state.
