1. O'Lielly won't get what Colbert is all about.
I was just thinking about this yesterday. I bet he thinks that Colbert IS a conservative nut job, just like he is.

2. Other - It will just be a sad waste of time and giving of respect to someone who deserves none
Anyone who buys into the hype of this like it's going to be great needs a new bullshit-hype detector.

This is going to suck and it's a stunt that brings the entire "Report" down a notch.

22. Have to agree
It will be very wishy washy.

If I was Colbert though, I would ask Oreilly about his thoughts on Keith Olbermann.

3. Realistically, Colbert will pull his punches
and O'Reilly will blithely ignore what mild shots he does take & pimp his book, all while pretending to be reasonable.

6. Other, no smackdown will be attempted. Reciprical ratings ploy.
Both shows will be looking to get a ratings shot from their bases audience tuning in to see the respective guest getting slammed, but it wont happen.

10. Does anyone know if O'Reilly ever commented on Colbert's
performance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner?

I think O'Reilly is probably jealous of the demographics of Colbert's viewers. O'Reilly's viewers are a lot older on average. He seems like he is trying to show he's "cool" like he has in the past by making an appearance on The Daily Show and on Letterman. I don't think Bill realizes how big of a flop he was on either of those shows.

14. Other: Billo will try "one-upsmanship" and fail miserably.
Edited on Thu Jan-18-07 06:07 PM by TahitiNut
Billo is smart enough to know when he's being ridiculed and, rather than go straight on a comedy show, will try one-upping Colbert. (Billo is incredibly egotistical.) Colbert and his staff undoubtedly expect this. (They're even less stupid than Billo.) Thus, Billo will take bait and try being funnt but will come off looking pathetic ... and Colbert will help him to look that way. (Some of it will have been rehearsed. The question will be: How much?)

25. I wonder if he'll take the same approach he did on Letterman last time...
Which was: ALTERNATE between failing at one-upsmanship,
and desperately begging the audience to believe "it's all just an act".

He's a pathetic little man.

I think Letterman's writers feed the guests all kinds of lines.

It will be one big joke fest between the two, it will be very very light.

I just wish Colbert would tear him and faux a new one, but it wont happen.

27. Attempting to spar and causing a scene would be a huge mistake.
Edited on Thu Jan-18-07 06:45 PM by BullGooseLoony
That would be O'Reilly's best-case scenario.

The absolute best thing Stephen can do is mock O'Reilly through CELEBRATING him, and not giving O'Reilly an opportunity to cause conflict.

20. BOR's already taped his show right?
That is, for tonight's Colbert guest appearance?

It's not secret, BOR edits his shows heavily to make him appear "smarter" than his guests. It's in his Fox contract, ya'know

33. The Maher/Stewart/Colbert audience uber-predictable applause/booing is the worst thing about the
shows. What you percieve as "eating alive" is really eye-rolling, satisfying red meat to people who disagree with us politically.

34. If the people who disagree with us want to think that, I think that's just dandy.
I rather see it as a group of people who prefer to call bullshit than engage in knuckle-dragging jingoism. So, yeah, I'll stick with my "eating alive" description.

26. If Colbert plays it right, it will be one of the greatest welcomes to a show
Edited on Thu Jan-18-07 06:42 PM by BullGooseLoony
in show business history.

He needs to go WAY out of his way to give O'Reilly a king's welcome. Constant ass-kissing. Balloons, streamers, dancing girls, trumpets, etc.

More than anything, what O'Reilly wants out of this is a way to "cause a scene" on Colbert's show, and he will attempt to do so. As such, Colbert can not give him the slightest reason for it. He should treat him as if GOD HIMSELF is appearing on his show, with full deference.

31. Limbaugh might figure it out, but rest of the right talkers don't even have defective sense of humor
to get this kind of parody.

Also, just about everything Colbert says has literally come out of the mouth of a righty.

When he did his roast of Bush, he only said one thing that righties wouldn't:

"Facts have a known liberal bias."

They wouldn't say that because it's true.

36. I don't find him funny, but in the past he has spoofed listeners by pretending to believe some non-
conservative thing for an hour to freak out his listeners.

I find the guy cruel and an intentional liar.

Saying that he had even a slight talent or intelligence at his job is like saying Hitler was a better public speaker than Bush. It is not giving him a moral pass, it is simply saying that his communication skills are better than the others graded on a curve.
