31. I heard him for the first time some months back on Bob Edwards show
Edited on Sun Jan-21-07 03:11 PM by Lusted4
His new CD has a great war protest song called Diplomacy thats very timely.
His been around a long time but he is new to me. I find him to be a great song writer and a hell of a guitar player. I think his day in the spotlight is coming.

Her music and songs are the fabric of my childhood... so rare and precious... so dear to me...
thank you for finding these and for sharing them... so sweet the fields of melodic flowers... blessed almost forgotten dreams...

but isn't making music anymore as far as I know. I think "Both Sides Now" CD from 1999 or 2000 was her last recording.

6. Highly Recommended: PBS American Masters documentary: "Woman Of Heart And Mind"
Edited on Sat Jan-20-07 02:15 AM by Dover
One of the very best documentaries on any subject I've ever seen, chronicles Joni's life from her Canadian beginnings to present.
You'll want to own this one.
I've worn out my copy!

11. Where is Old Crusoe - I haven't seen him post for a good while.
Btw, I met a now good friend on line and he is a musician. He told me about how he and his friend hooked up with this singer and they gigged for a while. Well, long story short, she left him and went out on her own. And, I'm glad she did. :)

18. Thank you! Joni is wonderful! The only time I saw her live was over 30 years ago
at a college concert. She was just starting doing concerts and she didn't have great stage presence but her voice and music were overwhelming.

26. I never got to see her. But I remember that as a 16 yr old starting out
poet, she grabbed my imagination and shook it up but good. A big window opened.

Thanks, Joni.

Thanks for the link. Her Isle of Wight performance needs to be posted, too. The grace that she exhibited in accommodating a disruptor to that show is a sight to behold.

From Wikipedia

In an October 2006 interview with the Ottawa Citizen, Mitchell apparently "revealed she's recording her first collection of new songs in nearly a decade". She went on, in a different version of the article, to talk about two songs, "Holy War" and "If," based on a poem by Rudyard Kipling. She revealed she has laid down basic tracks for five songs, and will play piano, synthesizers, and guitars will be by Mickey Wynne; the album will feature a familiar cast of musicians including Mickey Wynne on guitars Brian Blade on drums and Wayne Shorter.

and

On January 28th, Joni Mitchell will be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame alongside legendary singer/songwriters Leonard Cohen and Gilles Vigneault
