2. I on the other hand think they did not think anybody would be
against this because it was blessed by Lord Bush.

3. I agree...
I think they wanted to see what kind of response they would get....

There is always a purpose behind what they do...usually misguided and corrrupt......

4. Oh yes he does think it will fly
The Homeland Security Department said it was legally impossible under the committee's rules to reconsider its approval without evidence that DP World gave false information or withheld vital details from U.S. officials. The 30-day window for the committee to voice objections has ended, the department said.
<snip>
Treasury Secretary John W. Snow said yesterday that while he had not seen the congressional requests for an additional review, the committee was "thorough, and carefully considered the issue of national security in that acquisition."

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the administration continued to support the sale and would brief members of Congress on its decision.

"It's the considered opinion of the U.S. government that this can go forward," Rice told a roundtable of Arab journalists yesterday at the State Department in Washington. Rice, who will visit the UAE next week as part of a three-country Middle East tour, said there had been a "thorough review" of the sale and "it was decided that this could be done and done safely."

6. I agree - it's a done deal.
I note that the GOPers who think they're going to run in 2008 are being very vocal against it. They know it's a done deal, too. But in future, when they're constituents are fuming over it, they can say, "Hey, remember I spoke out against it at the time ..."

5. More like a diversion
To let those bitching about BushCo have a victory, where the Republicans unite with the Democrats against BushCo to make it look like Congress isn't rubber stamping.

If it still flies through, the BFEE wins big through their relationship.

If it is stopped, then all the other shit gets overlooked, and BushCo wins because Congress isn't rubber stamping BushCo.

7. it's the Harriet Miers play
Don't ya think?

If it works, it works. If it doesn't work, Halliburton (Alito) is the second (first) choice.

10. I don't think it's a problem
Bush has a deal with terrorists: they will tell the US their flight and seat numbers.

If they forget, the Bush administration will perform with the same success as foiling the 9/11 plot and preventing damage and loss of life from Hurricane Katrina.

12. could it be a little bigger than that
From what I have seen, everyone (inluding other members of the GOP) outside of the Bush admin is against this. My first thought was that this is nothing but an opportunity for an administration that continues to dissapoint the public to allow the GOP that will actually be running for office in Nov and in '08 to distance themselves and say "but I stood up against them...see look at my record". Even Frist is speaking out against the white house on this one.
Could be wrong.....
