Dick Cheney Shoots a Man in Texas
Harry Whittington (March 3, 1927), the Texas lawyer shot by Dick Cheney, appeared before the media last Thursday, and apologized for all the trouble the incident caused. While it may seem natural to astrologers that a Pisces should apologize for being a victim, his healthy presence did reduce the Vice President's political and legal liability to mere embarrassment.
The shooting incident, what Cheney (January 30, 1941; 7:30 pm; Lincoln, NB) called "one of the worst days of my life," took place on February 11 as transiting Mars was right on his Midheaven. Mars, the natural ruler of weapons and shootings, was the activating celestial agent that led to this iconic event. But since Mars is here every two years, it wasn't the chief culprit.
Mars by secondary progression* moves much more slowly, and had entered into an opposition with his natal Pluto. This activates the Veep's natal Sun-Pluto opposition. Considering that Pluto sits on the cusp of the secretive Twelfth House, Cheney can become pre-occupied -- even obsessed -- with secrets, enemies, and enemy action. In this case, Pluto's nature makes one so focused on the target that he discounts any possible collateral damage.
As the chief architect and defender of the invasion of Iraq, Cheney acted in a similar way, reflecting the Sun-Pluto's tendency to focus on the enemy without regard to the consequences. Currently, Cheney's progressed Midheaven is exactly (to-the-minute) conjunct his Pluto.
His fate (MC) is sealed with this life-transforming (Pluto), but relatively minor hunting accident. Those who can think symbolically will see the larger parallels.
