New Orleans city councilman: "Soap opera watchers need not apply"
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/2006/02/soap-opera-watchers-need-not-apply.html

Saw this over on Anderson Cooper's blog, about a New Orleans councilman who is proposing that anyone who wants to return to New Orleans be required to find a job. He says he doesn't want people to "sit around and watch soap operas."

Boy, are the freepers out in force on this one! Here are just a few of their little gems:

Job skills? You don't need job skills to work at McDonalds and work your way up.

If you want free housing, food, and a monthly stipend you should be prepared to work, not lounge around watching soap operas and making babies.

I have worked since I was 13, I am now 35, and have never been with out a job. When I hear, "I dont have the skills to work anywere', bunch of crap.. so you are telling me you cant flip a burger... What these people need to say is all I want to do is sit on my ass and watch tv and have everyone else support me.

Sounds to me that this is turning into yet another "beat up on the poor" idea.

1. Rush was praising this comment the other day
Of course, it was a coded message for all his racist, bigoted listeners (I guess that would be the majority).

2. That comment is so bogus -- people WANT jobs -- where are they?
This New Orleans arrogant jerk doesn't have to worry about people wanting to work, people WANT to work. It's up to him to get up off his ass and make sure there ARE job opportunities available in New Orleans for people who want to work, and not just pay lip service to it.

3. The poor don't get a break
esp. the black poor--if they're working, they took the job from some "more deserving american" or they aren't working hard enough.

4. Ohh..well, that should keep Republicans out. . .
since they spend their "work" days posting in Freeperville.

5. You would think with all the work that needs to be done cleaning up NO
that there would be plenty of jobs.
