Damn it anyway...its NOT just about national security (Port deal)
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 11:12 AM by Danieljay
Yes, there may be some national security issues involved here, but its a lot more than that. This is about the selling out of the American worker and business to big corporate interest. This about selling out our land and coast to foriegn countries. This is about the unchecked presidential misuse of authority. Its about a president who now says he didn't know about it. (another lie).

I'm not sure the politicians get it. They keep talking about "security". I get the feeling that if they somehow felt ok about the security issue it would be ok with them. Its a bad deal all they way around.

Does anyone agree?

2. It's hard to
Considering how many ports are not under the control of US companies. If this were the first port to be handed over to a foreign company, you'd have a point. But my understanding is that many of them aren't.

Who do these companies employ to work at hte docks? Are there competitive American firms who can do the same work, or is your solution to nationalize these operations?

3. Well, actually, it's about ALL American interests being for sale.
Edited on Wed Feb-22-06 11:18 AM by Just Me
The BushCO/neoconster regime is exploiting the American people's interests in physical and economic security,...for profit. The regime doesn't give a rat's crap about the health and/or welfare of their own nation or people. All it concerns itself with is making more money and expanding its own power at the sacrifice of American soldiers and families and safety and growth.

They've conned the American people into sacrificing everything great about this country.

4. Its about giving away the candy store...........
while our ports are still not even close to being up to par security wise, they are staffed by hard working Americans, Union & other wise. In many instances like in NY & NJ there are various agreements as to how the ports would operate and how they are protected. In as much as this treads on workers & security the biggest issue boils down to "States Rights" which * think he can tread on too.

5. Yes..i so agree.
What this says, way beyond security issues, is that we, as americans, do not have the capacity, the capibility, the manpower, the ability, etc. to manage our own ports..so that we need to hire another country to do it for us. It is insane.

10. I blame Adam Smith, myself
and David Ricardo. Quick - we need a return to mercantilism, where all assets should be doled out by the government with the purpose of controlling all trade. We knew where we were in the 18th Century - stuff 'comparative advantage' ...

11. The thing is that our infrastructure, the very essence of the US
has been sold out to foreign corporate interests right under the noses of the American people. We are just waking up to this now, after outsourcing of jobs and now this deal which threatens national security.
