Al Franken still obsessing over the Cheney shooting incident
While the rest of American political world, dems and repubs, are obsessing over the deal with the UAE.

I had to turn him off.

1. Why?
What's wrong with multitasking?

Certainly we can focus on more than one issue at a time.

6. He kind of annoys me anyway
So it's not the first time I shut him down. Malloy is my favorite seconded my Randi.

2. With all due respect, he's doing that because of his guest, David Brock.

The guest sets the topic.

Edited to add: I guess you didn't hear him the first hour and some of the second talking about the ports.

8. Is he online
I've only listened to Harmann those times when he stood in for the Majority Report and really like him, but his regular show is not aired in Miami.

11. I'm with you on that
Franken certainly appeals to some, but he has yet to win me over. Franken has some great point, but I find it hard to wade through the show, listening to the inside jokes and forced humor.

9. It's interesting how the "ports" story saved Cheney's butt
The story has been out there since November, when Dubai DP World made its first bid to P&O, yet it didn't hit the teevee radar until this week. Nice timing, Dick.

Singaporeans spark P&O bid battle

£3.5bn takeover approach from state-owned ports operator trumps agreed offer from Dubai

By Michael Harrison, Business Editor

Published: 11 January 2006

Britain's oldest and most famous shipping company, P&O, was at centre of an overseas bid battle last night after the port authority of Singapore made a £3.5bn takeover approach for the company.

The 470p-a-share offer from PSA International, part of Singapore's state-owned investment company Temasek, trumps a 443p-a-share bid in November from the rival Dubai port operator DP World, which has already been accepted by the board of the UK ports and ferries operator. DP World indicated it was likely to come back with a higher bid, saying it was "committed to the successful completion" of its deal with P&O.

P&O Agrees to Singapore Acquisition, Dropping Dubai (Update5)
Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co., Britain's largest port operator, agreed to be acquired by Singapore's biggest port company for 3.55 billion pounds ($6.3 billion), rejecting a lower offer from Dubai.

PSA International Pte, owned by Singapore's state investment company Temasek Holdings Pte, bid 470 pence for each share, London- based P&O said in a statement. DP World, the port operator owned by Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, offered 443 pence on Nov. 29.

LONDON // British port operator Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., which runs Baltimore's public terminals, switched prospective suitors for the second time after Dubai Ports World raised its offer for the company to almost $7 billion, trumping an offer from Singapore's PSA International Ltd.

News of the bidding war sent P&O's shares up almost 5 percent yesterday.

12. yeah, why not give in to the deal a meal scandal wheel?
why not let each scandal rotate by us, forgotten?
If we held on to the scandals, then we'd have to actually be outraged by them and do something about them.

better to let the wheel keep spinning.

14. I've more or less given up on Franken--I stick to Randi and Malloy when
I do get a chance to listen to AAR.

Franken can be on target sometimes, but too often he is just looking for the quick and easy joke, which is fun, but not really useful.
