Where does the First Amendment end?
If we jump up and defend Bennish as he states opinion rather than fact in a classroom, why aren't we defending Professor Samuel Naves from a Grand Rapids, Iowa community college?

All he did was prepare his students for a short video depicting actual sex between a man and a pig... and then show it to them.

Why was he forced to resign? Isn't HE afforded rights under the First Amendment as well as the next person?

Why? Where is HIS First Amendment right to conduct his classroom in any way he sees fit?

Why?

1. You've hit it exactly
This is why so many folks on both ends of the spectrum occasionally hate the ACLU -- they defend without regard to message.

4. I thought it was a geography class...
I heard his rant caught on tape.

Here's my take on it:

A geography class should limit the course to content to where borders are drawn.

Plain and simple.

Were this teacher's First Amendment rights were violated? I think not.

Geography is

1. The science which treats of the world and its inhabitants; a description of the earth, or a portion of the earth, including its structure, features, products,:woohoo:political divisions:woohoo:, and the people by whom it is inhabited. It also includes the responses and adaptations of people to topography, climate, soil and vegetation.
2. study of the earth's surface; includes people's responses to topography and climate and soil and vegetation.

"The ideal geographer should be able to do two things:
He should be able to read his newspaper with understanding,
and he should be able to take his country walk - or maybe his town walk -:woohoo:with interest.:woohoo:"

Legality of the tape and/or curriculum both seem to be in order. It seems to me That encouraging this little rat is counter productive, and disruptive. What message are we sending to his peers and even more importantly, his other teachers? This little darling has clearly demonstrated the teachers rant/creative thinking point.

"The Hitler Youth was a logical extension of Hitler's belief that the future of Nazi Germany was its children. The Hitler Youth was seen as being as important to a child as school was. In the early years of the Nazi government, Hitler had made it clear as to what he expected German children to be like:
"The weak must be chiseled away. I want young men and women who can suffer pain. A young German must be as swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp's steel."
Nazi education schemes part fitted in with this but Hitler wanted to occupy the minds of the young in
Nazi Germany even more."

"Enforcing a Nazi curriculum on schools depended on the teachers delivering it. All teachers had to be vetted by local Nazi officials. Any teacher considered disloyal was sacked. Many attended classes during school holidays in which the Nazi curriculum was spelled out and 97% of all teachers joined the Nazi Teachers' Association. All teachers had to be careful about what they said as children were encouraged to inform the authorities if a teacher said something that did not fit in with the Nazi's curriculum for schools."
