30. history
History has proven that a country without a leader is nothing but a sitting duck. We need to remember, apart from any wish here that P. Bush would drop dead, other countries might get a different message than the one we intend to send.

For an opportunistic enemy, a leaderless United States--a country it's own citizens badmouth relentlessly--might be exactly what they've been waiting for.

Every American needs to remember that, it's not what we INTEND, or SAY, that defines reality--it's what they THINK we've meant and said that will determine their actions.

when a President is impeached. So what are you talking about? I'm sure you've heard of watergate? Do you really think that our country was leaderless after Nixon resigned? Again, what are you talking about?

There is an audio, then there is complete statements on what we are about.

The final will come out nearer November.

12. "We believe all Americans should have access to affordable
health care" How nice, but how do they intend to accomplish that? We know the DLC/Hillarycare plan won't work because it leaves for-profit insurance companies in the catbird seat, motivated to deny care to increase profit.

Everybody loves Mom and apple pie and baseball, at least in theory. However, this isn't what people need to hear.

Some of the critiques on the page of the Idiot's plans are good. They're still not offering us anything to replace any of it.

Generalities and "we're not as bad as they are" seem to be masking a policy that's purely business as usual. Nobody's going to vote fot that.

Don't support them and don't vote for them.

This is America, and you don't have to be a Democrat.

I posted the link, knowing it would not be enough. Nothing is ever enough for the progressives here.

I was one for a while, but it scares me to have people who don't accept any of our Democrats' efforts...so I am back to moderate.

15. Do you mean having a PLAN posted on the site would be too much
to ask for?

That's why people are going to stay home on election day. Yes, they're pissed off at Stupid, but they don't see a real alternative out there.

Part of this is a PR problem, but part of it is also deadly accurate. Generalities on the official website only add to this perception, since generalities mean "gee, we don't want to stick our necks out on anything, people might not like us."

Who the hell wants to vote for THAT?

20. There IS a plan at the website.
If you are not aware, the Third Way and the DLC are trying to set their agenda apart from the DNC. It is called the American Dream Initiative. I think the new database might be for that as well..the one being formed by Harold Ickes which Dean says the DNC can't use.

Sorry it is not enough yet for you.

What is your agenda? Who have you got on board with you, and do you have someone to present it and get elected on it?

9. That's a good point
I'm surprised that the Democrats haven't come up with something to rival the GOP's "Contract (ON) America" from 1994--but then again they announced their contract only a couple of months prior to the election. We should do the same. Reform, ethics, healthcare, education, and a timetable for getting out of Iraq should be part of any goals.

39. So ....you want a Bush victory in Iraq.
"You wouldn't say that if you lived in Iraq" Uh... How do you know what I would say if I lived in Iraq? or for that matter, what you would say?

"I need the son of a bitch to do something right for their sake." Why do you "need" this? and why do you think after bush has had 3 years, he going to "do something right"?

"It serves our purpose that he is not." According to you, what's "our purpose"? Oh, and who is "our"?

But we're talking about the Democratic plan. "The Democratic plan" today, victory, to be precise, military victory is the same as the GOP plan ! Tell where you see a moral difference between a Republican aggression, and a Democratic one?

"The Democratic plan would have been not to fuck up the situation beyond all recognition in the first place." "Would have been"?
Most of the Dems in Congress voted for the war!

Just leave and tell them to go to hell? News flash, kiddo, we're already there. Arguments about the morality of doing so are pretty much moot at this point. We broke it, and we can either try to leave it in better condition, or choose your option and leave it worse.

32. As the threads to this post show what we all want is somewhat
unclear and inconsistent..............

So I'm going to speak about what my family wants and tell me if that is much different from your own.

I want to be proud to call myself American again and hold to a higher standard we believe Our Constitution was drafted to adhere. I would be prouder if we were the facilitators of peace and prosperity here and abroad. This means money invested in stability and not Wars based on lies.

I want to know that my wife and five kids will have access to health care whether they are working at a soup kitchen or pursuing a PhD in microbiology.

I want to know that economic security means that when I work hard I will be able to retire and still have a reasonable level of quality of life - enough for housing, utilities, food and health care and opportunity for community involvement.

It also means that I expect my kids have decent educational opportunities K - College and access to the funds needed to pay for it.

I want to know my family is safe in my community from unexpected disasters or crimes against humanity.

I expect my elected officials to be more honest and to talk straight to me. If they can't do that I expect the shared responsibility of the public regardless of party is to fire the person whether she or he is the president or a school committee member.

I expect the public to support measures that give all willing and able candidates interested in public service a level playing field to run. This means more civic involvement of the public and responsibility of the media to make messages freely and equally accessible.

I expect small businesses to be supported to become larger businesses that can employ more people. I expect large US businesses to support their government as well as their shareholders. I expect them and millionaires to pay their fair share of the cost of good government.

I expect the able poor to be provided adequate support to improve their lot in life and I expect the middle class to have the ability to have a steady growth at or above the rate of inflation.

I am tired of discrimination and the endless bickering and blaming. Straight - gay, immigrant - citizen, choice or not, religious or not. Frankly, I think these are only issues because often we make them issues that expend enormous amounts of energy. There is nothing keeping us to maintain our own values within the laws of our Constitution.

I expect the genius and good of human beings to prevail in the sciences and I think the US should be on the cutting edge of alternative energy development and stem cell research.

THere is nothing in here that is contrary to what most Americans want.

I appreciate your willingness to ask what we think and not let us dictate what you do. By asking and listening you are able to formulate an opinion that is right for all, think back to Bill Clinton and you can see why he was so popular with the average joe. BTW if you stick to your platform you will be a very popular Senator.

obey the law protect civil rights
tell the truth
fire the incompetents
chase the moneychangers from the temple of democracy
bring our troops home
find obl, protect the ports
stop blaming the american people when it's this admin addicted to oil
make access to healthcare affordable
reduce the deficit
respect work over wealth, fight for American jobs

Maybe if people like you repeated the message instead of lying about its supposed non-existence, the voting public would hear it. Then again, if the voting public heard that Democrats really do have a message, people like you wouldn't have anything to run on. Hmmmm.

40. Excellent Excellent Excellent
There will always be a million different perceptions of the same scene. So what can we agree on is the TOP principles?

Our middle class deserves prosperity, security and equality through common sense, strong values and fairness.

Our veterans, seniors, youth & disadvantaged win when hard work and shared leadership is rewarded.

While these seem broad - they're actually overarching and bring us back to the principles our forefathers envisioned in Our Constitution.

We have plenty of smart, industrious and patriotic people to accomplish what every day citizens know we want and need and if we remain united on these principles we can achieve them.

43. Here are a few planks
End senseless deaths, get our troops home now.

End the death penalty.

Tough on crime (starting with the arrest, trial and conviction of GWB)

End government ban on drugs and smoking.

Reinstate the fairness doctrine. Alternate progressive show hosts and neocon hosts on the same station during the same time. For example: Rush on MWF one week, Tue & Thur the next week during his slot. Randi Rhodes on the same stations same time Tue & Thur the first week and MWF the second week. With the right stations and time slots, you will be surprised how good progressive radio ratings will be.
