Has ANY Presidential administration in recent history been so loath to

admit ANY error, so as not to fire or retire any members in high posts?

Brownie is the first person of any rank to be fired. O'Neill, Christine Todd-Whitman, Powell were forced out over disloyalty/policy differences. Safavian and Allen left just ahead of the subpoenas.

It appears Rummy will never be fired--there can be no admission EVER that there is ANYTHING WRONG with the decision to invade Iraq, or its execution, even though 2/3 of the country recognizes the debacle there. Cheney is the shadow president, so he can't be fired. Dept. of State has been completely marginalized and made meaningless (foreign policy comes from the Pentagon, from the barrel of a gun now), so there is little point in sacking Condi, and besides, she mouths the shrubco talking points nicely.

1. Never has an administration been so arrogant as to stare
blankly at the interviewer when asked to recite any mistakes it may have made. Hell is too good for these people.

2. It goes with the ideology
I am a ditto-pig conservative so therefore I can do no wrong. The rare times I say that I'm wrong is simply to reduce political fallout. Only people of a different ideology than me are ever wrong.

5. Lawrence Lindsay was fired
Bush's former White House Economic Adviser Lawrence Lindsay was fired in 2002 after estimating the final cost of the Iraq War at $100-200 billion. At the time, stunned administration officials declared that there was no way the war would cost that much, and that the final figure would be closer to $50-60 billion. But even before the war began, some economists were predicting that it could cost as much as $2 trillion.
