It seems as if people are moved only when the roof caves in.

I said in 1999 Bush was a failure and would drive the country into an iceberg.

And...I am not the brightest guy around.

Something has to change so this NEVER happens again.

The education (schools, press, etc.) system has to teach people how to think clearly. Right now, it is not doing a very good job.

There will always be those on the fringe - they cannot be helped.

1. Currently, It's Impossible To Prevent Morons
There are no requirements for physical health, mental health, or moral health written into the Constitution. The only requirement is age (35) and being native born.

The unwritten requirement is money and lots of backroom pull. Total public financing of the election campaign process, including repossessing the public airwaves from corporate conglomerates for free and equal campaign coverage, coupled with the removal of the legal fiction of "Corporate Personhood" would do a lot to level the playing field so that some smart people could run a viable campaign.

To put that sort of guidelines in (which might actually be a really good thing) will require amending the Constitution. It could be done, but first there would have to be a massive public education process (which is why public schools are under continuous attack by NeoCons).

2. Easy. In 1999, the RNC went trolling for an "Anti-Clinton" with
charisma.

6. dear wake.up.america,
the bushes are ensuring that people are kept from being taught how to think. F-cats are one way they are doing that. kids are learning rote answers to canned questions--never are they thought to develop their thinking/intuitive process. they are making double damn sure of creating a society of zero thinkers-high emotionality push button people through the elimination of liberal arts programs beginning with the liberal arts programs in the grade schools--that is what jeb bush is doing here in florida...where thinking seems to have taken a dip in the waters of the atlantic ocean.

they really are atrocious people--ruthless dictators whose souls are as craven as ......(you fill in the blank-any craven thing or craven one will do)-- i get sick thinking about it and my mood takes a very deep sinking low.

:-(

16. seems as if I should wake up and realize the gravity of the problem...
it is difficult to understand how the wife of an US Army CW4 can tell me that if America does not invade Iraq, America will be fighting in Houston, Philly, L.A., etc against these very same people. I told America IS fighting in America. It is called crime.

20. the bushes are feeding the ignorant--they are feeding them fear.
the real terrorists are the bushes...it would take an emotional tsunami for that wife of an army man to see the light, acquire intelligence, and tell the bushes, 'you will abuse me no more.'

The bushes know that is what will happen when people acquire intelligent, factual information. that is why they don't want facts to get out and that is why they don't want people to think through anything--therefore, the keep pushing the people's emotional buttons through lies, fear planting and manipulation.

7. I think voting should be compulsory. A requirement of citizenship.
If people knew they had a duty to vote--and schools went back to teaching civics, to impress on kids that they do indeed have civic responsibilities--we might get more awareness in the general population about who these characters are who run for president, and how whom we choose impacts us in our daily lives.

Aside from that, we won't get another moron for at least another generation. Everybody's been burned by this one. It'll take another generation to forget. Kind of like Vietnam. We forgot how we were burned by that war and we ended up in another one.

8. Good question - there is something seriously wrong with a political
system that can put a Bush 43 in office, or a senile Ronald Reagan in a second term, or a 100 year old Strom Thurmond ...

11. I knew Bush would fail too.
I think many of us did.

I couldn't believe they would nominate him.
I don't believe he won in 2000.
I don't believe he won in 2004.
I can't believe he still has over 30% support.

This guy has failed and failed and failed at everything he has done for his entire life and, as a result, has been elevated to the highest position in the land, in which he has been a total, complete failure. His vile vice president is also a life-long incompetent whose every statement for 5 years has turned out to be false and deceitful. (He even lies about earlier lies.) He made it to the #2 spot.

It's clear that actual merit no longer counts for anything in America.

13. Same thing here...
Back in 1998 or 1999, when * was just a blip on the big political screen, I read some article where a bunch of * supporters were way, way too confident who the next president was going to be.

I vaguely remember also some stuff about how badly things were going in TX at the time, put two-n-two together, and had a Dead-Zone flash forward and the biggest oh shit moment of my life, as in "oh shit, we're all gonna die."

Sigh.

14. When you don't have an independent and open media and press
it is very easy for a person of Bush's caliber to become President of the United States.

Corporate owned interest put in the man who would complete their mission. We are no longer a free nation.
