KERIK: "Arab nation's SYMPATHY for the US could be in doubt" re: Ports
"I got no doubt about what they're thinking now. It's pretty insulting!"

...."For four years we have been trying to tell the Arabs that we are not anti-Arab, we are anti-fundamentalist," said Bernard Kerik, the former New York Police Department commissioner who oversaw rescue efforts after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Kerik, who was nominated for homeland security secretary in 2004 but withdrew amid questions about the immigration status of his housekeeper and nanny, said Arab countries were as much a target of al Qaeda as was the United States, and should be embraced as allies, not turned into foes.

"I think they (U.S. Congress) hurt our relationships with people that we are trying to get communication and coordination from," Kerik told a maritime security conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Kerik said Arab nations' sympathy for the United States could well be in doubt. "We the United States were looking at all the Arab countries we possibly could to be our partners in the war on terrorism, including Dubai. I got no doubt about what they're thinking now. It's pretty insulting," he told Reuters in a later interview.

1. what bullshit
Kerik withdrew his nomination because he was a fucking crook - he had a whole laundry list of lapses, the least of which was the status of his goddam nanny.

6. Reverse the situation; if the US wanted to buy any country's ports...

(In response to this thread.)

The anger would be against the home country for allowing a foreigner to buy into something so critical.

It works both ways.

We are not a one-world government yet. Which is sad as that impedes the economic "globalization" taking place. Can't have economic imbalance when you've still got those lines drawn on a piece of paper that says "when you're here, respect these people"...
