Really pissed off at Colbert tonight
Stephen Colbert, who is a funny and creative guy with a great staff of talented people, really pissed me off tonight.

I don't know if it was a repeat or what, but I happened to catch his interview with Michael "Heckuva Job Brownie" Brown tonight.

Brown's incompetence and cronyism during and in the aftermath of Katrina was played for laughs tonight.

Ha ha ha, really fucking funny.

I'm not a Louisiana or NOLA resident, but this REALLY pissed me off.

More than 1000 people died in New Orleans in the wake of Katrina. The federal government, if fully mobilized and led by competent leadership, could have saved many of those lives. They didn't. Part of the reason was because FEMA was led by a political crony of chimpy mcflightsuit, who went on Colbert's show tonight and had a big grand old laugh-a-minute time like he had only failed to put a pie in someone's face or something.

This is not something to make light of. This is not something to turn into a punchline on a fake news show. Many, many people are dead because of this. Have some fucking decency.

Why wasn't there someone in uniform on the set with handcuffs to apprehend Brownie and incarcerate him, and announce that all of his superiors would soon be in leg irons and orange jumpsuits?

Go ahead and tell me I have no sense of humor. I can take it. But putting up Michael Brown as a figure of fun because of his incompetence, while knowing that there are literally hundreds of people who are DEAD because of what he failed to do, far exceeds the limits of poor taste.

When are these bastards going to be IN JAIL? When are they going to pay for their bloody failures, incompentence, and profiteering?? When will justice finally be done?? WHEN WILL OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE FINALLY BE OVER????

PISSED OFF.

1. It was a replay
It aired last Wednesday. I saw when it originally aired and I thought Colbert actually asked some tough questions that the regular media doesn't have the balls to ask. Yes, there were some laughs in there, but Colbert does an entertainment show, not a news show. I actually think that entire episode was one of his best.

2. He apparently successfully pointed the finger at Chertoff.
But that's beside the point.

Colbert does a parody of O'Reilly (I'm sure you know that). I'm sure he meant no disrespect and, in fact, slammed Brown quite nicely by asking him if he made any improvements to the department other than leaving.

3. You Have Every Right to Be Angry...
...but no one likes to be laughed at. Brown deserved it. He has helped to turn our country into a joke, so why not make *him* the joke?

5. As mentioned, it was a repeat.. but also
Brownie was scapegoated in this fiasco... as we all learned a few weeks ago. the criminality and the incompetence is actually in the hands of Chertoff and Duyba.

didn't you see those recently released videos of Brownie trying to convey what the hell needed to be done in a conference call with Bush BEFORE the hurrican hit? were you on vacation a few weeks ago? did you miss all that?

Brownie doesn't escape complete responsibility, but as these videos revealed, he did actually try to communicate the problems at hand.

It was Bush that Failed.

6. The one thing I can say is he had the guts to appear and faced him
And it was a rerun from last thursday. Colbert is just plain old sarcasam. As for the response did you know that with in 4 hours of the storm passing a Navy amphibious assault ship complete with a marine brigade and helicopters sat off the coast waiting to get the word to go in and help for a day or two!

9. Not many people know that that ship followed the storm to shore
...and that it had the capability to make thousands of gallons of water a day. I will never forget how the administration denied life saving water to those dying of thirst. Never.

7. Our Nightmare will not end because of Brownie. I give him credit.
Yeah, he is a crony, and incompetent, but please, you do not believe that our problems are over because he is out of this Administration. I think he bears a heavy responsibility, and he does not absolve himself of it because he goes on Colbert, but he puts the focus back on his handlers. You are right. But Colbert does valuable work. Here is my view: Bush, Rove and Cheney would like nothing better than to follow your advice and put Michael Brown in leg irons and say that those responsible have been held accountable. Your passion is great, and I agree with it. But it is misdirected. This is what Colbert, Jon Stewart, Doonesbury, Tom Toles and (from the past) Mark Twain et al are all about.

8. Did you miss the fact that Colbert airs on Comedy Central?
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 02:44 AM by MercutioATC
The Jon Stewart lovefest aside, Comedy Central is NOT a news network. It's a **gasp** COMEDY station.

Colbert played Brown for LAUGHS???? SHOCKING!!!
