1. There will come a time when Busta Rhymes will have no ryhmes
No hits. No airplay. No money. And no fans.

And hopefully he will regret ever treating any of his fans like that.

6. This is the first I've heard of it
I didn't even bother clicking on the link because I already got the gist of it from your post. And I'm not a Busta Rhymes fan. I thought he was just a one-hit wonder that faded away a long time ago. I had no idea he was still around.

I just think it's bullshit. And stupid. You should respect all your fans.

I gave a thumbs up on it, but most thought it was arrogant I guess. Poor Whitney, if that's true (But who wants to believe Bobby's sister)!!!

still ticked at the anti-gay hatred in the Hip Hop crowd...

12. Screw them--
not all the hip-hop crowd is like that. But the ones that are, just screw them!

As others have stated on this thread, not everyone in hip hop has the talent (or attitude) to maintain longevity in their career. People like him don't deserve any success--no one that has hate in their hearts does...

21. mainstream rap sucks these days anyway. None of it has
a political message. And what better genre of music to speak out against the wrongs ofthe governnment than rap music? It was designed to "report" from the street. Now all they talk about is money, bitc**s and sex. BORING. Underground is out there preaching, but they get no play. Too bad

Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 11:42 PM by bliss_eternal
a bit ago. You posted to that one, didn't you? :hi: Forgive my memory right now, I'm not feeling well.

I found there are some conscious political rappers out there, you just have to know where to look. They aren't on MTV or other music channels that's for sure.

But most of the ones that are (on MTV) do speak of what you said--you are right. :( A few on MTV and such channels are conscious, but they are too few and far between.

It's always cool to meet and talk to other political rap fans! :)

27. I'm drawing a blank but there was a music site...
oh, way long time ago...darn, can't remember the name, but it was THE spot to shop for music before it was sucked up by Amazon. ANYWAY, the categories were such that finding conscious rap was easy - now not so much. Podcasts have some indy stuff and, I think you can drill down on Rhapsody. Once you find one artist it's a little easier to find another like him/her...

I love ALL kinds of music. The other day I was telling the kids about some 'bangin' classical' I'd just d/l'd to my iPod and they won't let me live it down!

:hi:

PINK FLOYD! The greatest musical experience ever. I love all types of music too. I have so many diff music files on my computer (80's music, Rap, Hip Hop, Classical, Rock, Punk and Soul/R&B). Its sad that people these days listen to one genre and refuse to even consider another. Like ALL black people HAVE TO listen to rap and ONLY rap and ALL white people have to listen to rock and only rock. Stupid. Music is universal. It has no color.

28. No I disnt post, but I wish I had!
I havebt ever seen a rap post on here. It would have been great to talk about it, though.:hi:

I'm sooooo tired of the crap on MTV/BET and the radio. I found a great web radio station out of England that plays GREAT rap music. Not ANY of that crap you hear on the radio, strictly underground hip hop and rap. Its called www.totallyradio.com Their shows "Beats To The Rhyme" and the "ONe 40 Five" shows are HOT! I think you have to join now to listen (you used to be able to listen for free) but its so worth it.

How sad that I must listen to a show out of England to hear the best hip hop and rap from America.

23. It's always gotten the most air-time, the most publicity,
and, consequently, the most sales. Conscious rap doesn't get developed and promoted nearly as often. It's not (just) the rappers but the big money guys at the record companies who've guided rap down this path.

25. Shame isn't it?
Sometimes I have to agree with the rants of Spike Lee. Apparently he's been pissy with Russell Simmons about this issue for some time, or at least been critical of him in regard to this.

I can't even watch MTV when it's hip hop day. The videos make me physically ill. I'm not kidding. Too much booty. If the guys are going to take their out and shake them, too--then it will be fair, but while it's just women being exploited ...bleh! :puke:

41. I heard Russell on Fresh Air and couldn't decide if I liked
how committed he is to the art form. I wondered if he was just being defensive when questioned by the 'Establishment', know what I mean?

Music IS about self-expression but at what point does someone with street cred step up? But, again, it's the ones with the money who decide what gets produced and as long as people buy it, it'll stay headed in this direction.

10. That's fucked up--
his image is no longer allowed in my home, through television or anything else. My boycott of him starts right now. Asshole! :grr:

And how does anyone know if the kid was gay--it could have been a fan just trying to touch him, fans do that. The assumption that a man attempting to touch another man makes one gay is antiquated and ridiculous. (Unless the fan stated he was, forgive me--I couldn't access the article for some reason.) It just seems in situations like that, it would be difficult to determine the details of ones life in a rushed moment like that...so again, poo on him.

But the gay men down here can be very "out of the closet" if you know what I mean. Gay men down here are proud and loud. And most people down here don't have a problem with it.
