5. It's not very realistic
if you click on a Repub it doesn't let you vote for them either.

8. LOL !
I saw the title of your thread and I thought you were going to grouch about the actual content of the game/video...

I didn't even try to vote for a Repub -- the ACLU is nothing if not even-handed, they defend everyone's right to free speech, to freedom of religion,...

:hi:

7. From the video
Weren’t Dues Paid?
People with felony convictions are among the disenfranchised in many states, though they’ve served their time and pay their taxes. Citizens who are playing active roles in society talk about being shut out of a process in which they desperately want to participate.

Unfortunately if we give felons back the right to vote we have to give them their gun ownership rights back too. And then we get to be known as the party for felons.

11. One of the pop ups said
"Sorry the poll worker demands that you produce identification, when in fact, it is not required by law."

ID isn't required? Why not? I'd be pretty PO'd if I went to vote and someone had already voted using my name.

12. In many states ID is not required by law --
I have to give my name and address and I have to sign the poll book, I don't have to show an ID.

The problem with requiring ID's is that people forget them at home, or may have lost them, or -- and this is the biggest issue for me: They may not have one because they don't drive, don't have a passport, etcetera.

If photo IDs will be required to vote that is okay by me if the photo IDs are free and are available at a location convenient to all citizens -- like the local post office. (They must available be Mon-Sat 9-5 pm so that working people can one without having to take off work; they must be provided in one quick visit - no returns to pick it up, no 'you will get it in the mail').

Some laws being proposed/enacted now make IDs available at only 1 location in a 100-mile radius and charge $25 to get one. It will be people who are poor -- people who tend to vote Democratic -- who won't be likely to make the trip or pay the charge. If I were raising a family of 4 on a minimum-wage income, I am not sure I would.

14. Voting under someone else's name is very, very rare
To the best of my understanding, someone voting under someone else's name is very, very rare. Should there be better 'controls' - maybe - but I am far more concerned about all of the evidence we have of 100,000's of voters being disenfranchised by:

Flushing registrations of people who are likely to vote Democratic
Purging voter rolls of people likely to vote Democratic
Machines, punch cards etcetera that fail to accurately record votes of people
Private vote counting software & equipment

Again - I am happy to include rules that will make it less likely people can vote under other's names, but it has to be fair - and virtually all legislation that 'deals' with this problem is, itself, thinly veiled disenfranchisement. Do everything you can to make voting more difficult and fewer people will vote, especially if such legislation is enforced only for middle- and low-income people.

The simplest method to make sure people won't vote for anyone else: Dip their fingers in the purple fluid after they have voted once -- hopefully this means that they will vote under their own name and won't vote for anyone else. Does that sound good?
