CNN: - WOOHOO! No longer any reason to be angry at God!
CNN has some guy on talking about the recent finding that prayer does nothing to help heal the sick. Dude says it's a good thing, because now people don't have to be angry with God when a loved one dies.

I guess they'll be able to re-direct their rage towards the hospitals and doctors now, where it belongs! :eyes:

Oh, God.

HE'S NOT LISTENING!!!!

I'm sure the religionists will find great comfort in that.

war on Christians? Thanks to him, there will still be plenty of chances to be mad at God!

5. I read that report and can't be supportive

of telling people what they need to NOT do when they want to believe and have hope.

I can't recall any one of my friends or relatives that got mad at GOD for Katrina or anything else they prayed about--- they sure as hell were mad at Brownie and the Bush crooks.

7. It has to apply the other way around, of course.
Case in point: my daughter. She was going to come by normal delivery. All seemed right, but she seemed to have some difficulty coming out after the tip of her head showed.

The doctor, being highly skilled and experienced, immediately said, "She's stuck. Let's cut her out." And a C-section it became.

It turns out the umbilical chord was making TWO turns around her neck. Had the doctor hesitated for another minute or so, she could have sustained brain damage due to lack or oxygenation -- or died.

One of my neighbors has a girl the same age of my daughter, who wasn't so lucky. The poor child had her oxygen cut for a few seconds during birth for similar reasons. She's the sweetest girl and otherwise healthy, but at 5, already noticeably slower than her kindergarten classmates.

Who saved my daughter from the same fate? God? No, a HUMAN BEING did. An exceptional human being, hell-bent on saving lives, to which I will be eternally grateful. The merit is hers. ALL hers.

Here's do Dr. O. :toast: May all Ob Gyns be like her.

I guess the supply of surgery skills in Heaven was running low at the time. Maybe they had less faith than us. (THAT would be a feat)

11. You could see my sarcasm huh?
If bad thing 'A' happens to Joe and Bob, but Bob comes out of it ok and Joe is permanently disabled. It must be safe to assume that God loves Bob more than Joe. (more sarcasm)

Life is a crapshoot! Good people have bad things happen to them and bad people prosper.

There A'IN'T NO PLAN!

If there was a plan, the words "Pediatric" and "Oncology" would never be written together.

Or a football player scores the winning TD.

God loves you, but he'll take your loved ones in horrible ways, then make you burn in hell if you diss him.

I'll pass.

19. want some skewed logic?
From USA Today:

In the largest study to examine the effects of {prayer} ... heart-bypass patients ... who were told that study volunteers were praying for them were actually more likely to suffer a medical complication.

Mark Coppenger, a professor at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, believes in praying for others, but he questions the wisdom of measuring God's response. "It's my experience that God actually prompts our prayers," Coppenger says. "But I don't see him cooperating in a test."

So according to this guy, this "God" fellow could have helped these heart patients recover without complications, but since he was pissed off at the experimenters, he took his ball and went home. Some God.

23. Prayer and Free Will
I profess to be a Christian. I do respect Atheists. Or is it atheists?
Not sure if it is capitalized considering it is a reference the belief in nothing theistic. Belief is personal. Believe what you like but don't cramp it down my throat.

I believe in free will. You have a choice to do good things or bad. You have a choice to use the brain that God gave you or did not give you.
Most morality is not innate. Proven by children with no ethical or moral direction in life committing murder.

Prayer generally defined as a personal conversation with the higher or lower entity in which you believe.

Is morality innate? Why does a child with no ethical or moral direction in life commit murder? An Atheist can teach good morals as well as a Christian.

Prayer generally defined as a personal conversation with the higher or lower entity in which you believe.
It can be simply an inner dialog (meditation) within yourself regarding an important decision.

I believe it can help your personal health because keeping stress low and managing your feelings is important when it comes to illness.

Prayer has been highjacked by people whose brains have not evolved beyond cavemen. Whoops! I believe in evolution also.

Within us all dwells good and bad. One does not exist without the other.
Otherwise how do you know the difference?
O8) :evilfrown: :puke:  :hippie: :nopity:   :dilemma:

25. It's one study
And a dumb one at that -- not to mention a waste of money, IMO.
I've read of other studies that show positive results from prayer and I suspect they're just as "valid" as this one.

The real question to me is, why is CNN wasting valuable time on this? Believers aren't going to worry about the study anyway, and those who don't believe are going to shrug their shoulders, say "hell, I knew that," and go on their way.

We've got massive debt, a godawful war, another one possibly on the way and CNN is wasting its time on a prayer study.
